A Boatman assigned to work with a Hydraulic Suction / Cutter Dredge or other dredging vessels, engages in the operating of a workboat that is utilized in the periodic setting up and breaking down of pipeline systems attached to the dredge or other dredging vessels such as a Booster, and is directed toward a designated drop-off area ashore or somewhere off-shore. When laying pipe, must utilize skill as a navigator to carefully maneuver the workboat while paying close attention to the crew affixing a bell and ball pipeline assembly on seas that may be high and choppy, and currents that may be swift.  Boatman will utilize the workboat with a lifting device such as an anchor barge or derrick, to lift, transport or relocate and drop anchors when positioning or repositioning the vessel. Will also transport crew, equipment, and material and will travel to and from the shore and dredge vessel when making such a delivery.  The Boatman’s main responsibility is to operate the workboat, however he may need to offer a helping hand to the crew when handling certain equipment. May occasionally lift and carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts generally weighing 31 to 50 lbs.
