ProSidian Seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Construction - Engineering (CO102) as an Engagement Team Member generally located across the Savannah River Site / Aiken, South Carolina supporting Environmental Management Sector requirements to support an engagement for a liquid waste contractor (Savannah River Remediation [SRMC]) at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC, which is owned by the U.S. Department of Energy. 

JOB OVERVIEW

Provide services and support as an Engineering Functional Area Senior Mechanical Engineer – Construction (CO102) under Labor Category: Construction Discipline Engineer at Savannah River Site / Aiken, South Carolina.  Senior Mechanical Engineer – Construction - Engineering (CO102) work collaboratively as part of the ProSidian Engagement Team as Exempt personnel.  Dedicated Planned Labor Hours (DPLH) of 2080 Straight Time (ST) Estimated Annual Quantity (Hrs. Per Yr.) | 300 Overtime Time (OT) Estimated Annual Quantity (Hrs. Per Yr.).  This as a Labor Hour Subcontract or Contract W-2 (IRS-1099) Position and ProSidian reserves the right to convert to a Full-Time ProSidian employed W-2 Position.  The role(s) are located at Savannah River Site / Aiken, South Carolina with identified Work Site Address (121 Richland Ave E, Aiken, SC 29801, USA), providing Engineering functions working to provide BOA Support Services for multiple department requirement Service Areas (SA) for Savannah River Remediation LLC (The SRMC/LW Contractor) at the U.S. Department of Energy | Savannah River Site (DOE-SRS) in Aiken, SC to support the evolving needs of the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES - Senior Mechanical Engineer – Construction - Engineering (CO102)

  • Provide planning and technical oversight for mechanical field construction involving procurement, fabrication, installation, modification, and maintenance of systems and components.
  • Coordinate with design agencies to obtain timely designs and changes; conduct field walkdowns with design engineers; review vendor and design outputs for constructability, procedure and code compliance, field-condition alignment, and material availability; submit and track comments through resolution; support project design-review meetings; and resolve field design problems with design engineers.
  • Inspect and verify materials, equipment, installed quantities, and workmanship against drawings, specifications, codes, and ordered materials. Coordinate with Quality Control on inspection and test records and installation acceptance. Develop or expedite bills of material, monitor delivery status, arrange field delivery, order additional material, coordinate material testing, and track shop fabrication.
  • Develop computer-based work execution plans and packages, including installation sequences, work instructions, layout/survey requests, job-specific hazard analyses, inspection/test records, required permits, approval-routing lists, comment dispositions, and approved package assembly. Update package status in the SRS work control passport system; lead pre-job briefings and task-ready walkdowns; provide daily field coverage; resolve installation issues; support turnover, start-up, and functional checkout; issue design completion notices; close permits; and close work-plan documentation.     

Construction Discipline Engineer Mechanical - The position requires the following specific requirements:

  • Thorough understanding of Construction Mechanical Engineering principals and the ability to apply these principles to field conditions
  • Familiar with National Codes and Standards (ASME relative to Tank fabrication/installation, rotating and stationary Equipment, H&V, Insulation, etc.) and capable of interpreting and analyzing requirements to ensure compliance
  • Knowledge of SRS specific mechanical guides and standards is a plus
  • Experienced in H&V fabrication / installation / testing
  • Experienced in setting of equipment, pumps, and alignments
  • Experienced in insulation removal and installation (knowledge of asbestos abatement would be a plus)
  • Experience in developing ordinary and critical lift plans is a plus
  • Experience in radiological work planning and hazard analysis is desirable
  • Capable of climbing and spending extended periods of time in the field
  • Capable of obtaining qualification to work in radiological work areas

Desired Qualifications For Senior Mechanical Engineer – Construction - Engineering (CO102) (CO102) Candidates:

  • Thorough knowledge of construction mechanical engineering principles and their application to field conditions. Working knowledge of discipline-specific codes and standards, including relevant ASME requirements for tank fabrication/installation, rotating and stationary equipment, heating and ventilation (H&V), and insulation, with the ability to interpret and analyze requirements for compliance.
  • Required experience includes construction work execution plan generation, preferably in Asset Suite or an equivalent work-control system; job-specific hazard analysis; material takeoff and procurement support; field inspection; and coordination across design, Quality Control, craft supervision, survey, procurement, fabrication, start-up, and support organizations.
  • Relevant practical experience should cover H&V fabrication, installation, and testing; equipment and pump setting and alignment; and insulation removal and installation. Knowledge of SRS-specific mechanical guides and standards is preferred. Experience with asbestos abatement, ordinary and critical lift plans, and radiological work planning/hazard analysis is beneficial or desirable as stated in the posting.

Education / Experience Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering and at least 5 years of practical experience in construction Mechanical field engineering or
  • Associate's degree in (specified discipline) engineering and 5-10 years of practical experience in construction Mechanical engineering or
  • High school diploma and 10+ years of practical experience in construction Mechanical Engineering
  • Working knowledge of discipline specific codes and standards

Minimum Experience

  • Previous experience with generating work execution plans (preferably utilizing the Asset Suite work control system)
  • Previous experience with generating job hazards analysis
  • Previous experience performing material take off and procurement
