Job Description

We're looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Financial Accountant to join our growing finance team in Sydney, Australia. In this role, you will be responsible for managing financial records, preparing accurate financial statements, and ensuring compliance with Australian accounting standards. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and transparency. You'll collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to support our organization's financial health and strategic decision-making.

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including journal entries, ledger accounts, and reconciliations with a commitment to precision and compliance
  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and present findings clearly to stakeholders
  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts, and general ledger accounts to identify and resolve discrepancies promptly
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions in a timely and organized manner, ensuring proper documentation and audit trails
  • Assist with payroll processing and maintain accurate employee compensation records while adhering to regulatory requirements
  • Support tax compliance activities, including GST reporting and other Australian regulatory obligations with meticulous attention to detail
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, and areas for improvement, providing actionable insights to management
  • Maintain organized financial documentation and implement efficient filing systems that support audit readiness and regulatory compliance
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external auditors to support audit processes and respond to inquiries professionally and transparently
  • Utilize accounting software and systems to record, track, and report financial information accurately and efficiently
  • Prepare financial reports and analysis to support management decision-making and strategic planning initiatives
  • Demonstrate resilience and problem-solving abilities when addressing complex accounting issues and implementing corrective actions

Qualifications

**Required Qualifications:**

  • 2-3+ years of professional experience in financial accounting, bookkeeping, or related finance roles
  • Proficiency with accounting software such as MYOB, Xero, SAP, or QuickBooks
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and Australian tax regulations
  • Advanced Excel skills, including data analysis, pivot tables, formula creation, and financial modeling
  • Solid understanding of GST, tax compliance, and Australian regulatory requirements
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks efficiently in a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly
  • Proficiency in financial reporting, account reconciliation, and bank reconciliation processes
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members and communicate transparently across all organizational levels

**Preferred Qualifications:**

  • Experience with payroll processing and ERP systems
  • Background in audit, financial analysis, or internal controls
  • Knowledge of accounting best practices and internal control procedures
  • Certification or qualification in accounting (such as CPA, CA, or equivalent)
  • Experience with financial forecasting and budgeting processes
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools and financial analytics platforms
