More about our mission and what we offer.

Job Description

When Wise’s investigation teams find suspicious activity, we have a legal obligation to report it to Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) around the world — quickly, accurately and in the format each country requires. Case volumes keep growing as Wise expands into new products and countries, and every FIU has its own rules, formats and submission channels. Without technical leverage, reporting would only scale by adding more people — an expensive route that makes consistency and quality hard to maintain.

The FinCrime Reporting team is the interface between Wise’s FinCrime teams and external FIUs. When AML, Fraud or KYC investigators escalate a case, we determine where it must be reported, gather the right data from across Wise, generate a report that meets local requirements, submit it, and manage what happens next — including keeping funds frozen while law enforcement decides whether a transaction can go ahead. Our goal is to automate this end to end, so reports are faster, more accurate and fully auditable, and our operations specialists can focus on the cases that genuinely need human judgement.

Scope of Responsibilities

FinCrime Reporting is looking for a full-stack Product Engineer to help us build the systems and tools that turn financial crime investigations into high-quality suspicious activity reports. You’ll own components and medium-sized projects across back-end services and the back-office tools our specialists use every day, such as:

  • The rules engine that decides which FIUs a case must be reported to, so more cases can skip manual review.

  • Data pipelines that gather transactions, customer and case context, and calculate the figures in each report correctly and consistently.

  • LLM-assisted narrative generation — including the input data, evaluation, hallucination checks and validation that make generated reports accurate and trustworthy.

  • Back-office tools that help reporting specialists review, edit and approve reports quickly, with the right information in one place.

  • Automated report submission to FIUs through APIs, SFTP, email and web portals.

  • System controls for funds-freezing and other regulatory processes, with a complete audit trail.

What will you be doing?

  • Design and build reliable, full-stack systems for suspicious activity reporting — from back-end services and data to the back-office interfaces our specialists use.

  • Own your work end to end: design, implementation, deployment, and ongoing support in production.

  • Partner with Product, Operations, Compliance and Data Analysts to understand how reporting works in practice, remove manual steps, and measure the impact of your work.

  • Build automation and bring AI capabilities into production, with attention to correctness, evaluation, traceability, and appropriate human oversight.

  • Write well-tested, maintainable code, and improve reliability, security, and technical quality through code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing.

Technologies you’ll work with

Our back-end stack is Java, Spring Boot, and Kafka, with SQL databases. Our back-office front end is built with React and TypeScript on Next.js. Services run in Docker containers on Kubernetes in AWS, and our LLM workflows run in Python on Wise’s internal AI platform. You’ll work with distributed services, asynchronous processing, and integrations with external government systems.

We design for scalability, observability, privacy, security, reliability, and cost.

Qualifications

What are we looking for?

  • Solid engineering foundations: At least 5 years of experience building backend, distributed, or data-intensive systems using relational databases and asynchronous messaging. Strong proficiency in Java and Spring is preferred, but experience with other modern backend languages (such as Go, Python, or C#) is welcome.

  • Full-stack skills: Hands-on experience with React and TypeScript — you’re comfortable building both user-facing interfaces and the services that power them.

  • Cloud and containers: Experience building and running services with Docker on AWS.

  • Ownership: You can deliver medium-sized projects independently, with good judgement around scope and quality, and you’re comfortable operating production systems, including testing, monitoring, and on-call.

  • Attention to detail: You care about getting things exactly right — the data in a regulatory report has to be correct, consistent, and explainable.

  • Product mindset: You seek to understand the needs of operational teams and compliance partners, use data to guide decisions, and enjoy turning messy, real-world processes into simple systems.

  • Clear communication and collaboration: You communicate progress, risks, and trade-offs clearly, know when to ask for help, and are open to giving and receiving feedback.

Nice to have: Experience with Python for LLM development, running LLM-based systems in production and evaluating their quality, or integrating with external partners and third-party systems.
No prior AML or financial crime experience required. Our product leads, operational partners, and compliance experts will help you build domain knowledge if you bring curiosity and a willingness to learn.
