Job Description
The Crane Fabricated Product Engineer serves as a technical leader responsible for the development, improvement, industrialization, and lifecycle management of WireCo’s fabricated products and related manufacturing processes. This position works cross-functionally with Product Management, Commercial, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Research and Development, and other engineering teams to deliver safe, reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective product solutions.
The Crane Fabricated Product Engineer executes technical roadmaps for new and existing wire rope products, fabricated products, including product design, material selection, prototyping, tooling and equipment requirements, manufacturing process development, testing, qualification, implementation, and ongoing product support. The role translates customer requirements, industry standards, product performance expectations, and manufacturing capabilities into practical engineered solutions.
Using a deep understanding of WireCo products, fabrication methods, manufacturing processes, customer applications, and evolving industry needs, this position provides technical leadership and support to Principal Engineers, manufacturing facilities, commercial teams, suppliers, and customers.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the development, modification, qualification, and implementation of crane fabricated products and related manufacturing processes.
- Deliver new and improved products in alignment with WireCo’s strategic plan, product roadmaps, and end-market strategies.
- Manage engineering activities through WireCo’s stage-gate or product development processes to identify, mitigate, and manage technical, manufacturing, quality, cost, and schedule risks.
- Translate customer requirements, application needs, industry standards, and manufacturing capabilities into product specifications, engineering designs, drawings, bills of material, and process requirements.
- Develop and evaluate fabricated product designs involving components such as wire rope assemblies, end terminations, fittings, attachments, hardware, coatings, and other value-added product configurations.
- Perform engineering calculations and analyses to validate product performance, design integrity, manufacturability, safety, and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Develop prototypes, test plans, inspection criteria, and validation protocols for new and modified products.
- Coordinate laboratory, field, and production testing; analyze results; document conclusions; and recommend design or process improvements.
- Provide technical oversight for tooling, fixtures, equipment, work instructions, routing, and manufacturing process requirements associated with fabricated products.
- Support the transfer of new products and processes from development into full-scale production.
- Partner with manufacturing teams to improve product quality, process capability, throughput, safety, cost, and consistency.
- Investigate product, process, and field-performance issues using structured problem-solving and root-cause analysis methods.
- Identify and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions and verify their effectiveness.
- Establish and promote sound engineering standards, design practices, testing protocols, documentation requirements, and data-analysis methods.
- Create, review, and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, technical reports, bills of material, product master data, and related technical documentation.
- Support product cost-reduction, value-engineering, standardization, material-substitution, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
- Evaluate raw materials, components, suppliers, and manufacturing technologies to ensure they meet technical, quality, and performance requirements.
- Provide technical support to customers and commercial teams regarding product selection, product capabilities, applications, installation, use, troubleshooting, and performance.
- Participate in customer meetings, field evaluations, product demonstrations, and technical training as needed.
- Maintain knowledge of advancements, innovations, regulatory requirements, industry standards, and competitive developments related to fabricated products and their applications.
- Represent WireCo, as assigned, on industry boards, councils, standards committees, technical working groups, and at conferences.
- Cultivate effective working relationships with raw-material suppliers, equipment manufacturers, external customers, commercial team members, operators, manufacturing leaders, Quality, Supply Chain, and other engineering groups.
- Support intellectual-property activities by documenting inventions, protecting confidential technical information, and assisting with patent or trade-secret reviews when applicable.
- Manage multiple engineering projects and priorities while meeting established technical, cost, quality, and schedule commitments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- At least five years of relevant engineering experience, or at least three years of relevant engineering experience with a related postgraduate degree. August 2026
- Experience developing, improving, or supporting fabricated, assembled, or manufactured products.
- Experience with product design, prototyping, testing, validation, qualification, and product lifecycle management.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, engineering drawings, bills of material, specifications, tolerances, and process documentation.
- Demonstrated experience investigating product or process failures, performing root-cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to analyze test and manufacturing data and make sound, evidence-based engineering recommendations.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, collaborative, and multi-site environment.
- Strong organizational and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, ERP or product-data systems, and laboratory or testing equipment routinely used in an engineering environment.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.
- Ability and willingness to travel to WireCo facilities, suppliers, customer locations, and industry events as business needs require.
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-graduate degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
- Experience with wire rope, cable, rigging assemblies, lifting products, fabricated metal products, or related industrial applications.
- Experience with fabrication processes such as cutting, swaging, socketing, splicing, welding, machining, forming, coating, assembly, or proof-load testing.
- Experience using computer-aided design software and engineering drawing-management systems.
- Experience with finite element analysis, statistical analysis, design of experiments, or other engineering-analysis tools.
- Knowledge of applicable industry codes, regulatory requirements, and product-testing standards.
- Experience with project management, intellectual-property management, engineering change management, or master-data management.
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or formal problem-solving certification.
- Experience working within an ISO 9001-certified quality management system.
- Experience with project management, intellectual property management, master data management, and/or Six Sigma certification.
