Job Description

Wind tunnel models don't get a second scan if the geometry is wrong. We're looking for a CAM Programmer/Machine Operator to join our Prototype Machine Shop, programming and machining complex components for our wind tunnel models, testing jigs and fixtures, and from time to time the race car itself. If you can take a design straight from CAD to a first-off you'd stand behind, we want to talk to you.

What you'll bring:

  • Producing components in the most efficient, cost effective way, keeping lead times to a minimum.
  • Collaborating with Toolpath Programming to solve first-off machining problems and suggest improvements to quality or runtime.
  • To conduct CAM programming and machining operations as directed by the Supervisor/Team Leader ensuring that all steps are taken to meet given deadlines.
  • Working with fellow machinists and other areas of the business to establish and use best practice.
  • Inspecting first-off components thoroughly, confirming correctness before running the rest of the batch to the same standard.
  • Recording shop floor data accurately using Data Collection Software.
  • Handing over clearly and accurately between shifts, in writing and in person, to protect production time.
  • Logging job information in the handover notebook so future demand runs smoothly.
  • Sharing ideas for more efficient or effective production with your Supervisor/Team Leader.

This role operates on a weekend shift, Friday to Sunday, working 06:30 to 18:30

This job description is not exhaustive, and the job holder will be required to carry out from time-to-time tasks in addition to the above that will be both reasonable and within their capabilities.

Qualifications

What you'll bring:

  • Proven experience operating in a low-volume, high-precision, fast-paced prototype manufacturing environment, with a strong depth of both CNC and manual machining knowledge.
  • The ability to plan ahead, prioritise workloads, and operate multiple machines simultaneously to meet demanding delivery schedules.
  • Extensive experience manufacturing metallic and non-metallic components, including aircraft-grade metals and high-performance engineering plastics.
  • Strong expertise in the setting, operation, and optimisation of 5-axis CNC machine tools.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software, ideally Siemens NX, with the ability to create and modify machining programs effectively.
  • A recognised engineering apprenticeship or at least five years' experience in a precision engineering environment, ideally within Formula 1, motorsport, aerospace, or another high-performance industry.
