Job Description
The Direct Materials Buyer ensures production continuity by owning the purchase order lifecycle from requisition through delivery. This role keeps supply flowing, protects customer commitments, and ensures orders are accurate, timely, and cost-effective. Success comes from strong supplier communication, urgency in shortage resolution, and cross-functional collaboration to maintain flow of materials across the business.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage PR-to-PO conversion, blanket orders, acknowledgments and PO closure.
- Expedite and de-expedite orders to prevent shortages and line-down risks.
- Maintain accuracy of pricing, MOQ, and lead times in ERP/MRP systems.
- Enforce contract compliance; ensure spending aligns with approved suppliers.
- Collaborate with Planners, GCM, Engineering, Logistics, and Finance to resolve parts shortage & quality issues.
- Support supplier performance reviews with transactional insights.
- Collaboration with Planner & GCM on final EOL exposure haircut and exposure reduction
- Support Planner on RTV negotiation and return to Supplier in event of Quality excursion
- ERM – Collaboration with GCM on 2nd source qualification and delivery timeline
- Monitoring WOS, Aging and Pallet requirement for storage.
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years in procurement, supply chain, or a similar role.
- ERP/MRP system experience.
PREFERRED:
- Experience in direct materials procurement within a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with contract compliance and supplier negotiations.
- Continuous improvement mindset (Lean/Kaizen experience a plus).
SKILLS:
- ERP/MRP proficiency (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent).
- Strong Negotiation & Influencing skill
- Enhance knowledge on commodity Landscape (to leverage 2nd source)
- Supplier communication and relationship management.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in execution.
- Problem-solving under pressure; shortage escalation management.
- Collaboration and stakeholder alignment.
- Basic data analysis (Excel, Power BI , Tableau & OBEIE)
