Job Description

We are seeking highly motivated university students ready to contribute hands-on alongside our engineering teams as you develop your career. University students who are graduating between December 2022 and May 2023 with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field are encouraged to apply. You will be considered for current and upcoming available new college grad roles.   

 We are recruiting for the following areas where you can be hired into a role within the group:   

 

  • Firmware Validation – Firmware Validation Engineers enables quality firmware for Western Digital’s competitive and successful enterprise HDD products. This team’s work involves validation of firmware through shift-left testing and the design, development, and review of tools and scripts to measure and improve efficiency.  This opportunity will give you exposure to a wide range of topics and is highly cross-functional with the opportunity to learn beyond the team’s main focus. This role is ideal for a motivated independent problem solver, with strong technical knowledge and communication skills. 

  • Global Operations Software Engineer – As a member of the Consumer Solutions team, you will support the My Core cloud storage product by implementing software features based on defined technical requirements; defining, implementing and documenting API based on requirements; developing units tests as part of the implemented software feature; and participating in design discussions. 

  • Firmware Engineering – Firmware Engineer supports analysis, design, programming, debugging and software modification. Team members are responsible for code for firmware (IC embedded code) applications. Work often involves analog and digital hardware and software operating systems. Positions require knowledge and exposure to hardware design. Typically programs in machine language, assembly language and high level languages (e.g., C, C++).  

  • Test Engineering (Master’s only) – Test Engineers focus on the development of 3D NAND memory technology with the assistant of simulation. In this role, you will work with cross-function teams to address process integration issues, perform mechanical stress or semiconductor process simulation, to provide guidance for semiconductor process development, integration strategy, 3D NAND architecture design, etc. 

  • System Tool Software Engineering – System Tool Software Engineers design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for software enhancements and new products. In this role you can help develops software tools including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases and Internet-related tools; determine hardware compatibility and/or influences hardware design; and develop applications for technical end users.  

  • Applications Software Engineering – Applications Software Engineer analyzes, designs, programs, debugs, and modifies for software enhancements and new production for local, network, or Internet-related computer programs for commercial or end-user applications such as materials management, financial management, HRIS or desktop applications products. In this role you will use current programming language and technologies, write code, complete programming, and perform testing and debugging of applications; and complete documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.  

  • Data Analytics Engineering – Data Analytics Engineers analyze, design, develop, program, troubleshoot, debug, monitor, maintain and provide end-user support for software programs, systems, data warehouses, and data collection/extraction processes/reports involved in the company’s engineering and corporate quality data collection, extraction, and analysis functions. Day-to-day responsibilities include, developing software tools including utilities, databases, data warehouses and Internet-related tools; determining hardware compatibility and/or influences hardware design; and developing architecture. Additional responsibilities may include interacting with users to gather and document business requirements and translates them into technical specifications; creating standard and ad hoc reports; and extracting and analyzing data. ​  

  • Systems Design & Integration Engineering – Systems Design & Integration Engineers design, define and implement complex system requirements for customers and/or prepares studies and analyzes existing systems. In this role you can help determine system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. Be part of the team that coordinates design of subsystems and integration of total system; identifies, analyzes, and resolves program support deficiencies; and develops and recommends corrective actions.​

Qualifications

Qualifications  

  • University students who are graduating between December 2022 and May 2023 with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field  

  • Developing technical skills and area of study towards, but not limited to, C/C++, Python, Golang, Java, R, Linux  

  • For Bachelor’s students: Right to work in the US without requiring Western Digital to commence or sponsor an immigration case in order to employ you (for example, H-1B or other employment-based immigration case)  

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills  

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications   

  • Interest in HDD, flash, semiconductor, components, nonvolatile memory industry
