Job Description

What’s Corporate Communication at Wellmark?  
Corporate Communications serves as a strategic partner to build and protect Wellmark’s reputation through one, unified voice through both internal and external communications. We do this by leveraging data and insights to strategically identify when, how and to whom we communicate based on business and reputation impacts to our mission of making health care better.

What projects might I support? 
As a member of the Corporate Communications team, you will partner in the planning, writing and implementation of internal and external communications across a variety of channels including intranet, email, enewsletters, social media and others. Your work will help inform and engage Wellmark employees as well as external audiences of key initiatives. You will help measure the performance of the communications for continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • · Collaborate and partner with various leaders and teams on how communications can help achieve their objective
  • · Develop and publish or distribute communications including social media posts, media pitches, news releases and internal articles to create awareness and engagement across various channels
  • · Research new ideas to improve communications
  • · Monitor earned and social media channels (Cision, Talkwalker, Sprout Social, local and industry news sites) for news and information that mentions or impacts Wellmark and the health care industry.
  • · Interview subject matter experts and build content from their insights  
  • · Collaborate with the corporate communications team to create holistic communications plans.  
  • · Analyze communications performance metrics and create insights-focused reports

This internship will start as a part-time position in April 2026 then transition into our 2026 Summer Internship Program in May working a full-time hybrid schedule from our corporate office in Des Moines, Iowa.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Current junior or senior pursing a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Mass Communication, Advertising, Marketing Communications or related program
  • Excellent writing and content creation skills with experience using AP Style.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with an attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience managing business and/or organization’s social media channels
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Comfortable interacting with all levels of the organization
  • Available to work 10-20 hours/week during the academic year, either hybrid or fully remote
  • Available to work 40 hours/week during the summer; required in-office days of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with additional days in office pending role requirements


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a corporate office setting
