Job Description
Use Your Strengths at Wellmark as our Team Leader Physical Security!
Reporting to the Director of Corporate Security, the Team Leader Physical Security will manage and evolve physical security programs across access control, emergency response, risk assessment, and vendor oversight. In this role, you will guide incident investigations, coordinate with law enforcement, implement safety training, and help ensure a seamless integration of security into enterprise operations; always with a calm, professional presence and a proactive mindset. Your work will touch everything from routine operations to leading a team of security professionals, ultimately strengthening our culture of trust, readiness, and corporate responsibility.
The ideal candidate is an experienced security professional with a blend of strategic thinking, tactical know-how, and people leadership capabilities. You lead with a balance of integrity, discretion, and a strong presence, even under pressure. You are comfortable operating at the intersection of security and business, with the ability to translate functional expertise in a corporate environment. Qualifications
Preferred:
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Certified Threat Manager (CTM), or equivalent law enforcement/military certifications.
- Law enforcement/military background strongly preferred.
- Security management experience within a corporate environment.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Security Management or related field preferred; or direct and applicable work experience.
- 5+ years of experience administrating physical security within the workforce; workplace safety being top of mind, including 2+ year experience in executive protection or a related security/protective services role.
- Experience in security risk management to identify and analyze risk and providing recommendations on how to mitigate the risk.
- Ability to balance security with approachability, embodying a healthy level of skepticism while being an enabler of corporate culture and brand representation.
- Demonstrated expertise in close protection, risk assessment, and emergency response.
- Strong knowledge and experience in the use of defensive tactics and security equipment.
- Leadership experience gained through a combination of project or informal leadership.
- Conflict resolution skills, including the ability to de-escalate situations and engage with offenders. Strong knowledge of defensive tactics and security equipment.
- Critical thinking skills and exceptional business knowledge and perspective to understand complex information to developrecommendations; proven ability to collect and analyze data to identify solutions.
- High level of attention to detail and organization skills to complete tasks accurately to achieve the specified goal.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients (Wellmark members/ groups, internal stakeholders, and external stakeholders) by listening to the client/customer and understanding and responding to identified needs including providing information through presentations suited to the need of the audience.
- Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
- Must be available 24/7 for on-call responsibilities and to respond to security/emergency situations.
- Valid driver's license. Travel required between 10-20%.
Additional Information
This position requires flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
a. Provide leadership and day-to-day management of financial and human resources for corporate physical security team, primarily focusing on employee coaching, development, performance improvement, coordination and budgeting for staff and department(s) specific functions/services. Support business objectives and produce results that are effective, accurate, timely, and on target to meet business and stakeholder needs.
b. Ensure regular patrols of company premises to ensure the safety and security of assets, facilities, and personnel. Ensure timely response to security incidents, emergencies, and threats, implementing defensive tactics when necessary. Conduct risk assessments and report potential security vulnerabilities.
c. Ensure company policy, procedures, and programs are properly executed within corporate guidelines and culture to support the workforce. Analyze, develop, monitor, and implement policies and programs to effectively reduce risks to the workforce and the company. Provide management reports, recommendations, and briefings.
d. In partnership with Director of Security, manage all aspects of the contract guard service program and vendor, including contracting, procedural development, day-to-day vendor management, training, and service level agreement delivery.
e. Oversight of all aspects of training to include scheduled in-service training for our security guards, executive protection agents, and other equipped staff. Training will encompass the full breadth of defensive tactics, standard operating procedures and emergency protocols, company policy as it relates to the emergency situations and contingencies; training, instruction, and certification of all security-related equipment. It will be the responsibility of the Team Leader to ensure all staff are sufficiently trained and certified.
f. Assess, recommend, implement, maintain, and serve as the subject matter expert for electronic physical security, and safety systems and procedures, including access control, security cameras, life-safety, and other systems to protect the workforce and company assets.
g. Lead confidential investigations into alleged security violations, incidents, and vulnerabilities in coordination with the Legal and Human Resources departments, including thefts, threats, violence, vandalism, criminal activities, etc.
h. As directed, provide rotational support and protection details for the CEO and other executives, ensuring their safety during travel, events, and daily activities.
i. Respond to emergency/medical situations, serving as the intermediary with emergency response personnel in absence of Director of Security. Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
j. In collaboration with the Privacy and Compliance Office, support policies and procedures that physically care for Protected Health Information (PHI) and proprietary company information.
k. Analyze, monitor, and report on internal and external data sources including incident reports, industry trends, crime statistics and trends, and develop recommendations to manage the risks.
l. Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, security policies, procedures; lead and provide education and training to leaders, employees, and on-site contractors, as directed.
m. Other duties as assigned.
Office-based: The nature of the job duties for this position will require you to be in the office 100% of the time. Your presence in-office is critical to effectively perform the responsibilities of the role. Occasional remote work may be permitted based on workload and/or other ad-hoc situations that support it, with manager approval.
