This position is in Atlanta, GA. This role is expected to come to our Main Campus, at minimum, on Tuesdays for our in-person collaboration days. Lunch and snacks and provided at our Main Campus whenever working on site with our team. Additionally, there will be days where we work in restaurants in the Atlanta area to conduct research/tests and talk with Team Members. There might be occasional opportunities to visit Restaurants across the United States; however, these will be more optional based on situation.
Job Description
You will play a critical role in designing the user experience strategy and executing design for products within the CommercePoint program. CommercePoint is a suite of Team Member facing products that are used for taking orders, producing food, and fulfilling orders for our Customers. These products manage every single order that comes through our restaurant, so intuitive and efficient functionality is paramount.
Our Core Users: The primary users of these products are Team Members aged 16-25 who interact with this technology 150+ times per shift. We want these products to feel like consumer applications they'd have on their phones (Spotify, Instagram) while maintaining the operational efficiency needed in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
Additionally, this technology is used by our wonderful Team Members all day throughout their shifts, so we want the products we design to be a joy to use. Our mission for UX within CommercePoint is to make it simple to become an expert in serving guests with care. We want to truly win the hearts of our Team Members with these products, so you will be expected to have a heart for the restaurant and a willingness to learn all about the operations of our business to inform your designs.
CommercePoint Product Portfolio
You'll work across four distinct products within CommercePoint, with workload varying based on project priorities:
- Restaurant Display Screens - Android native app for 22" tablets mounted throughout restaurant front counter and kitchen
- Point of Sale - Android native app for 15" tablets used for order processing
- Control Point - Web application for restaurant configuration (hours, services, inventory management)
- CMT Catering Management Tool - Simple web desktop application for catering operations
Responsibilities
- Design efficient, functional, and beautiful experiences for CommercePoint products that feel like consumer apps while maintaining operational efficiency
- Be flexible and work across multiple product lanes as needed by the priorities of the program, potentially managing multiple products simultaneously
- Work both strategically and tactically, thinking through tradeoffs of various approaches to solutions and exploring multiple concepts for features
- Enthusiastically engage with Team Members and Operators in restaurant settings to understand their workflows and pain points
- Work in Figma— utilizing components, layouts, and design system to design wireframes, interactions, and prototypes
- Move quickly from design specs and requirements to polished Figma execution, assembling and adapting solutions within an existing, well-defined design system rather than starting from scratch
- Write clear, user-friendly copy for UI elements, error messages, and interactions
- Communicate and collaborate with engineering teams who handle both product and engineering responsibilities
- Influence decision-making to ensure we are designing and building products that are serving our restaurants well and accomplishing business outcomes
- Take initiative and advocate for better-designed products with a "scrappy" mindset in a fast-moving environment
- Advocate for the mission and purpose of our brand
Qualifications
Experience Requirements:
- 7+ years of UX design experience with hands-on execution ability
- Consumer-facing application design experience highly valued - we want these products to feel intuitive and enjoyable like apps our young team members use daily
- Enterprise or operational software design experience preferred but not required
- Mobile app design experience, particularly Android native applications
- Demonstrated track record of fast turnaround on iterative design work in high-velocity, in-house environments (agency-only speed doesn't always translate — looking for candidates who've delivered inside a fast-moving internal product team)
- Portfolio demonstrating strong visual design and user experience thinking
Essential Skills & Traits:
- Genuine enthusiasm for user research and talking directly with end users, especially young team members in restaurant environments
- Proven ability to balance stakeholder needs with user requirements
- Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration, particularly with engineering teams
- Comfortable challenging engineering-driven solutions with user-centered alternatives
- Collaborative, low-ego approach to feedback and pushback — able to hear "that doesn't work for us" without getting defensive, and to adapt gracefully rather than defend a solution on principle
- Comfortable operating in a large corporate environment where the practical or "B+" solution sometimes ships over the ideal "A+" one due to business or engineering constraints
- Copywriting skills for UI text, error messages, and user guidance
- Portfolio or personal website that demonstrates strong UX principles in their own design and organization
Working Style:
- Senior-level designer comfortable working with minimal oversight in a "player-coach" environment
- Scrappy, flexible approach - able to shift between projects and handle ambiguous requirements
- Independence and initiative in problem-solving
- Willingness to challenge requirements and ask strategic questions
- Team-oriented — this role works closely alongside two other CommercePoint designers, so strong collaborative instincts matter as much as individual design chops
