Position Summary

As the Engineering Manager, Machine Vision Algorithms, you will lead a team of computer vision, machine learning, and software engineers responsible for developing and sustaining algorithm solutions for Wabtec's Wayside Monitoring portfolio. Working closely with the US-based Senior Manager responsible for the overall Machine Vision Algorithms (MVA) organization, you will drive execution of the technical roadmap, build engineering capability within the Bangalore team, and ensure high-quality delivery of machine vision and AI solutions.

This role requires a hands-on technical leader who can manage a team, collaborate across global engineering organizations, and drive development of scalable machine vision and machine learning solutions that deliver customer value. The position is based in Bangalore and serves as a key extension of the global MVA leadership team.

Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership & People Development

• Lead, mentor, coach, and develop a team of machine vision, AI/ML, and software engineers located in Bangalore.
• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development activities.
• Build technical competency and leadership capabilities within the team.
• Partner with global engineering leaders to ensure effective resource planning and talent growth.

Technical Leadership

• Drive execution of the Machine Vision Algorithms roadmap established by the global engineering organization.
• Provide technical leadership for computer vision, image processing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning initiatives.
• Lead the development and deployment of image processing, computer vision, and AI/ML solutions for wayside monitoring applications.
• Guide engineers in problem definition, system architecture, algorithm development, testing, optimization, and deployment.
• Drive data collection, validation, model training, performance evaluation, and continuous improvement activities.
• Participate in architecture reviews and technical design discussions to ensure solutions are scalable, reliable, maintainable, and aligned with product requirements.
• Partner with global engineering and product teams to deliver production-ready AI/ML solutions.
• Contribute to MLOps, model governance, and engineering best practices.

Product Development & Execution

• Collaborate with Product Management, Architecture, Program Management, and Systems Engineering teams to deliver product commitments.
• Translate business and customer requirements into engineering tasks and project plans.
• Drive timely execution of software and algorithm development activities.
• Improve engineering productivity through automation, common frameworks, component reuse, and best practices.
• Support release planning, effort estimation, risk management, and issue resolution.

Quality & Engineering Excellence

• Ensure compliance with Wabtec engineering processes, RAILS requirements, cybersecurity standards, and quality expectations.
• Promote software engineering best practices including CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews, and documentation.
• Monitor engineering metrics and proactively address quality, reliability, and delivery challenges.
• Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for product and process issues.

Global Collaboration

• Partner closely with the US-based Senior Manager of Machine Vision Algorithms and other global engineering leaders.
• Collaborate effectively across distributed teams in North America, India, and other regions.
• Participate in technical reviews, release planning, and strategic engineering discussions.
• Provide status updates, technical recommendations, and execution visibility to leadership.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or related STEM discipline.
• 8+ years of experience in Machine Vision, Computer Vision, Image Processing, Machine Learning, or related areas.
• 3+ years of people leadership or technical team management experience.
• Experience developing and delivering production-quality software solutions.
• Strong experience with Python and modern software development practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, or related discipline.
• Experience with OpenCV, TensorFlow, PyTorch, ONNX, or equivalent machine vision frameworks.
• Knowledge of image segmentation, object detection, classification, camera calibration, feature extraction, and image enhancement techniques.
• Experience with cloud platforms and containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with MLOps, model lifecycle management, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience developing AI/ML solutions for industrial, transportation, manufacturing, or predictive maintenance applications.
• Knowledge of rail industry technologies, wayside monitoring systems, or industrial inspection solutions is preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
