Who will you be working with?
Our best-in-class Strategy & Operational Effectiveness team has overarching responsibility for driving consistent strategy, project management, financial management, asset management, project execution, M&A integration, and enterprise architecture across global Wabtec IT. As the Director of Enterprise Architecture and Technology Portfolio Management (TPM) in IT, you will collaborate daily with domain architects, project managers, IT leaders, and other key stakeholders across the organization. This dynamic role spans functions and regions, enabling you to influence our enterprise architecture practice worldwide. Centrally positioned within IT, you will have a unique opportunity to impact major initiatives and ensure that our technology architecture closely aligns with both IT strategy and Wabtec’s broader business objectives.
How will you make a difference?
As the Director of Enterprise Architecture, you will lead the strategic oversight and governance of Wabtec’s global technology landscape. This role is pivotal in aligning enterprise architecture with business strategy, optimizing the application and technology portfolio, and driving modernization across domains. You will serve as a player-coach, collaborating with architects, IT leaders, and business stakeholders to ensure technology investments deliver measurable value and resilience. You will report directly to the VP, IT Strategy & Operational Effectiveness (Office of the CIO), regularly updating executive leadership on architecture progress, technology portfolio management governance, key decisions, and strategy recommendations to ensure alignment at the highest level.
What do we want to know about you?
You must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related program
- Eight (8) years minimum experience in IT, with strong enterprise architecture exposure
- Strong understanding of business processes and capabilities
- Ability to work at the enterprise level, influencing IT and business leaders to align technology strategy, architecture standards, and investment decisions with business outcomes
- Proven ability to lead global technology rationalization strategies and governance
- Experience with enterprise architecture frameworks and methodologies (e.g., TOGAF, BODEA, Zachman, or similar), with practical experience translating framework concepts into actionable architecture governance and roadmaps
- Possess knowledge of business applications, data analytics, and modern IT infrastructure, including cloud solutions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to analyze complex business problems and design effective technology solutions that drive business value
- Comfort working in a hierarchical environment and self-driven on deliverables
- Strong communication, analytical, and stakeholder engagement skills
We would love it if you had:
- Experience with Gartner’s TIME (Tolerate, Invest, Migrate, Eliminate) model or other APM/TPM frameworks
- Proficiency in tools like ServiceNow, Apptio, Power BI, and CMDB systems
What will your typical day look like?
- Architecture Leadership
- Responsible for setting the vision and leading enterprise architecture strategy across domains: Business, Application, Technology, Data, and Security.
- Bring structure and clarity across a federated model, through collaboration and influence, without slowing teams down
- Leverage existing architects across multiple IT departments to build and influence the ongoing and evolving technical environment.
- Develop nuanced architecture views and models that reflect the complexity of Wabtec’s global ecosystem.
- Compare and contrast architecture patterns based on business value, operational resilience, and cost.
- Compares and contrasts different enterprise level architecture configurations and patterns based on business value, operational resilience and cost considerations
- Supports the creation and communication of strategic roadmaps that sequence technology initiatives based on business priorities and technical dependencies, aligning to the overall enterprise strategy
- Governance and Standards including serving as a representative on organization AI governance bodies and forums
- Technology Portfolio Management Framework Ownership
- Defining and maintaining the global Technology Portfolio Management framework, including methodology, tooling, and governance structure
- Ensuring the framework supports rationalization, modernization, and strategic investment decisions across the enterprise
- Integrating Gartner’s TIME model into portfolio assessments and roadmaps
- Governance & Enablement
- Lead the Architecture Review Board (ARB) and participate in other governance forums to enforce standards and drive continuous TPM improvement
- Develop and deliver training, templates, and playbooks to equip domain architects, PMs, and IT leaders with the knowledge and tools to execute TPM effectively
- Serve as the TPM subject matter expert in cross-functional forums including AI governance, compliance, and infrastructure strategy
- Reporting & Insights
- Own the reporting strategy for TPM, including dashboards, KPIs, and executive summaries.
- Provide regular updates to the VP of Strategy & Operational Effectiveness and other senior leaders on portfolio health, risks, and opportunities.
- Ensure reporting is actionable, transparent, and aligned with enterprise priorities.
- Collaboration & Influence
- Partner with C-level executives, strategy teams, and solution architects to align technology roadmaps with business goals.
- Facilitate workshops and validation sessions to ensure portfolio decisions are informed and actionable.
- Champion modernization initiatives and identify pain points across the technology landscape.
- Stay up to date on emerging technologies and best practices to influence enterprise architecture, technology portfolio management, and IT strategy including IT Adaptive Strategy

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary rate for this role is currently $120600-171800 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com.
