Job Description

Wabtec Foundry, in Wallaceburg, Ontario, is a business unit within Wabtec Corporation’s Components Division.  Originally founded in the 1930’s, Wabtec Foundry is an Iron & Aluminum Foundry that focuses on producing products to support Wabtec’s extensive product line for the Rail Industry; Freight Car Components, Locomotive, Transit, as well as various other Industrial markets.

 

Who will you be working with?

 

Wabtec Foundry is currently seeking a Production Supervisor to join our team. This position is responsible for supervising a team of approximately 10 employees in our production operations in the Finishing & Shipping Departments.   You will work closely with other Departmental Supervisors, Scheduler and Quality to ensure production and sales targets are met.  You will work closely with key suppliers to maintain product flow to and from these locations via regular shipments.  You will also work with various freight carriers and customs teams to ship product onto our internal and external customers.  Shipping responsibilities include both Domestic and International shipments.

This role’s responsibilities include production goals, customer on-time-delivery, quality objectives, safety, equipment sustainability and management of direct employees. This position requires good leadership and organizational skills to directly manage a production department.  The position reports directly to the Operations Manager

What do we want to know about you?

  • Experience in casting or other metal production would be an asset.
  • Technical knowledge of Foundry-related processes would also be an asset.
  • Strong organization skills and proven ability in problem solving and process improvements.
  • Post-Secondary education in a related field would be an asset.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with management, Suppliers, Customers and Production Team.
  • Strong computer application skills, including Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software applications.
  • Experience in shipping procedures would be an asset, not necessarily required.

 

What will your typical day look like?

  • Enforce health and safety protocols as set out in Wabtec’s EHS policies and procedures.
  • Work with all Team Members to manage the flow of products through the Finishing processes, final inspection, packaging and shipping to our customers.
  • Ship in-process product (WIP) to key suppliers for further outside processing and manage flow of return shipments of same product.
  • Perform Inventory Count and Cycle Counts as required throughout the year, based on Wabtec policy.
  • Work with various ERP systems such as Oracle, Odyssey and others to ship products, ship orders and manage inventory.
  • Work with Production Scheduler to develop plans that are focused on achieving customer requirements on time (OTD).
  • Cover other Supervisors’ duties during vacation periods or a shift in priorities.
  • Address personnel issues on the shop floor, as they arise.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives; provide input on corrective actions for issues.
  • Monitor production activity to ensure processes are being followed.
  • Responsible for daily operations in production and shipping.
  • Conduct or coordinate employee training within a specific department.
  • Maintain a positive environment for employee health and safety performance.
  • Perform safety observations and investigations.
  • Prepare shipping documentation for domestic and international shipments.
  • Manage all shipping activities, both inbound and outbound.
  • Completion of Customs Compliance documentation required for International Shipments.
  • Issue resolution for Customs related issues.

 

The successful candidate will be required to work on-site, with no hybrid time working from home (40-hour on-site workweek – 8-hour days).

Our job titles may span more than one career level.  The salary rate for this role is currently $63,000 to $83,500.  The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as:  training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.  The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
