Job Description

Boone Power is seeking a Lead Lineworker to oversee and perform the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electric distribution systems. This role leads crews in daily operations, ensures safety compliance, and supports outage restoration efforts.

The ideal candidate is a skilled Journeyman Lineworker with strong leadership abilities, a commitment to safety, and experience working on energized and de-energized systems.

This position plays a critical leadership role in daily field operations, outage response, and system reliability while coordinating closely with internal departments and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Crew Oversight

  • Direct, train, and oversee Lineworkers and Apprentice Lineworkers
  • Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Boone REMC standards
  • Conduct daily job briefings and debriefings to ensure safety, preparedness, and completion of work
  • Verify accuracy of completed work, records, and reports

Line Construction & Maintenance

  • Lead and perform construction, removal, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electric distribution systems
  • Install and remove poles, conductors, transformers, regulators, capacitor banks, and associated equipment
  • Perform splicing, terminating, and installation of underground and overhead primary and secondary systems
  • Operate and maintain equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other construction tools

System Operations & Troubleshooting

  • Patrol and inspect lines, identifying and resolving system issues
  • Troubleshoot voltage issues, outages, and equipment failures
  • Install, inspect, and maintain protective devices such as reclosers, switches, and fuses
  • Perform substation inspections and maintenance activities

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure proper use, care, and inspection of PPE and safety equipment
  • Follow all company safety rules, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in safety meetings and maintain certifications (CPR, rescue, etc.)
  • Promote a strong safety culture within the crew

Equipment & Worksite Management

  • Oversee maintenance, cleanliness, and organization of trucks, tools, and work areas
  • Ensure proper material handling, stocking, and return of unused or retired materials
  • Maintain readiness of all assigned equipment and technology devices

Operations Support & Coordination

  • Support outage restoration efforts, including after-hours and on-call duties
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Metering, IT, and other departments on field operations
  • Communicate with members, contractors, and external stakeholders regarding service work and outages
  • Assist with service connections, meter work, and system improvements

Qualifications

Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree preferred
  • Current Journeyman Lineworker certification required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required
  • CPR certification required
  • Pole top and bucket truck rescue certification required
  • Experience leading crews and overseeing line construction and maintenance activities
  • Strong knowledge of overhead and underground electric distribution systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical issues
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work in high-pressure and emergency situations
