Job Description

WNS is hiring CAT Modeling professionals across various skills for a global reinsurance client. Kindly refer to the job description mentioned against the relevant role. 

 

1. Portfolio Modeling (3+ years’ experience in end-to-end portfolio rollups)

2. Regulatory Reporting (4+ years’ experience in EDM/RDM/SCHEMA)

3. Reinsurance (3+ years in treaty modeling, reinsurance)

4. Cyber Risk Modeling for CAT Modeling business (Maths/Stats education with 3+ years' experience in cyber modeling/ cyber risk & working exper. in knowledge of SQL or Python for CAT modeling business. Should also have experience in validating new cyber models, reviewing patches and enhancements, and comparing model outputs)

5. Technical Solutions Analyst (Maths/Stats education with 3+ years' experience in SQL, R & and Financial Models for CAT Modeling space)

6. Model Validation (4+ years’ experience in Model Validation with tools like RMS/AIR)

7. Technical Solution (3+ years’ experience in SQL Query writing for CAT Modeling function)

JOB DESCRIPTIONS:

1. Portfolio Modeling

• Good understanding Cat Modeling process and workflows

• Run vendor catastrophe modeling platforms (primarily RMS, AIR, Elements) for insureds and perform portfolio risk analyses.

• Working knowledge of RMS model scope across worldwide peril-regions regarding sub-perils, amplification, etc. along with basic understanding of cat-modelling four-box principle concerning exposure, hazard, vulnerability modules and translation of insurance and (re)insurance financial terms through coding in RMS and SQL.

• Assist clients in the understanding of catastrophe risk of individual insured through analytics based on catastrophe model results.

• Provide analytical support to catastrophe modeling team operations by sharing knowledge and information• Develop processes and scripts for process improvements

• Provide timely and frequent feedback to team members.

• Preparing MIS reports

• Training and mentoring of team members inducted in the pricing process.

• Assisting in monthly post bind and portfolio rollup activities.

• Ensure all SLAs are met• Communication with onshore SPOCs at regular intervals.

2. Regulatory Reporting

Role and Responsibilities

  • Good understanding Cat Modeling process and workflows.
  • Run vendor catastrophe modeling platforms (primarily RMS, AIR, Elements) including accumulation analysis for reporting needs, whenever required
  • Thorough knowledge of RMS EDM-RDM schema
  • Ability to understand the requirements of regulatory submissions and further deliver them accordingly
  • Understanding of RDS scenarios of Lloyds including Non-Modelled scenarios as well
  • Working knowledge regulatory reports like LCM, RDS Scenarios, Terror Accumulations & reporting.
  • Working knowledge of any other regulatory reports.
  • Working knowledge of RMS model scope across worldwide peril-regions regarding sub-perils, amplification, etc. along with basic understanding of cat-modelling four-box principle concerning exposure, hazard, vulnerability modules and translation of insurance and (re)insurance financial terms.
  • Provide analytical support to catastrophe modeling team operations by sharing knowledge and information

3. Reinsurance

  • Maintain and establish reinsurance catastrophe modelling workflows.
  • Review cedant modelling files, transmittal data and allied documents to perform treaty modelling using multiple vendor models. 
  • Support treaty reinsurance pricing and accumulation control process, peer review of treaty modelling results.
  • Communicate relevant information such as treaty loss results, exposure and loss analytics, and key drivers of risks to underwriters and senior managers.
  • Support analyses for periodic catastrophe portfolio roll-ups, internal and external reporting needs  
  • Provide support for internal projects, including testing, sensitivity analyses and impact studies 
  • Support catastrophe event response reporting
  • Support the development of tools to help automate current Cat modelling processes
  • Collaborate, present, and share knowledge with the wider Exposure Management team and Group Exposure Management function
  • Use technical expertise to resolve basic catastrophe modelling issues to ensure timely delivery of quality analyses that meet business needs and requirements
  • Sound understanding of different types of reinsurance structures – Proportional/Non-proportional
  • CAT modelling experience, with in depth knowledge of the underlying model methodologies and assumptions
  • Technical expertise working with AIR, RMS, Impact Forecasting and other catastrophe models
  • Working knowledge of additional re-insurance tools like AnalyseRe, TigerEye etc.
  • Excellent data management skills, one must have the ability to manipulate, interpret, and extrapolate complex data

4. Cyber Risk Modeling for CAT Modeling business

Experience

2+ years of relevant catastrophe modeling, analytics, or research experience

Role Overview

We are seeking a Cyber & Casualty Catastrophe Modeling – Research & Development Analyst to support the evaluation, enhancement, and development of cyber and casualty catastrophe models. This role sits within a research‑focused environment and works closely with underwriting, pricing, portfolio management, and risk management teams.

The successful candidate will have hands‑on experience with one or more commercial cyber and/or casualty catastrophe models, combined with strong analytical skills, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to translate complex model behavior into clear, actionable insights.

Key Responsibilities

Model Research & Evaluation

Perform research and validation of cyber and casualty catastrophe models, assessing:

  • Model structure, assumptions, and methodologies
  • Data sources, scenario design, and loss drivers
  • Model strengths, limitations, and areas of uncertainty
  • Conduct deep‑dive analyses on model outputs, sensitivity testing, and parameter impacts

Model Development & Enhancement

Develop internal analytics, benchmarking tools, and adjustments to supplement vendor model results

Design and test custom scenarios for cyber and casualty risk, including stress and tail events

Contribute to the development of internal views of risk for cyber and casualty perils

Portfolio & Loss Analysis

Analyze portfolio exposure, loss distributions, and accumulations across cyber and casualty lines

Support recurring portfolio monitoring, risk reporting, and ad‑hoc analytics

Assist in interpreting modeled losses for underwriting and capital management use cases

Tooling & Data

Work with structured and unstructured data sets related to cyber incidents, liability claims, and emerging risks

Utilize Python, SQL, or similar tools to analyze data and automate workflows

Document research findings, methodologies, and recommendations clearly and thoroughly

Professional Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Actuarial Science, or a related field.

3–10+ years of experience in catastrophe modelling, cyber analytics, actuarial analysis, or cybersecurity analytics (depending on level).

Soft Skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, cross functional environment.

Preferred Experience

Prior experience in reinsurance, insurance, broking, or risk analytics.

5. Technical Solutions Analyst

Job Profile Summary

Role to be as part of a team of actuarial analysts specializing in catastrophe modelling and risk management. The goal is to improve risk assessment and decision-making by providing advanced analytics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to improve profitability, monitor volatility, and facilitate portfolio optimization.
  • Design, evaluate, and select optimal financial methodologies to ensure consistency in catastrophe modelling outputs.
  • Provide technical and mathematical guidance to the accumulation management team.
  • Support both internal and regulatory reporting requirements related to catastrophe accumulation management.
  • Assess catastrophe reinsurance protection and contribute to the optimization of program structures.
  • Generate insights on projected catastrophe exposure to inform financial planning processes.
  • Supply catastrophe accumulation data to the economic capital team and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Lead innovative initiatives within accumulation management.

Work Experience

Required:

  • 2-5 years relevant experience in catastrophe modelling.
  • Strong mathematical and/or computer science background.
  • Proficiency in catastrophe modelling tools (e.g., RMS Risk Modeler, AIR Touchstone).
  • Experience with an object orientated programming language.
  • Experience with writing SQL scripts.

Preferred:

  • Experience using RMS HD models and/or AIR Touchstone.
  • R experience preferred, but Python also considered.
  • Experience in using different loss tables (ELT, YLT, PLT); and writing scripts to calculate statistics such as EP curves.
  • Experience writing SQL stored procedures.
  • Experience in treaty modelling.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field.

6. Model Validation

:• Perform model validation and provide recommendations on model use and/or required adjustments.

• Work with internal teams and external data providers on analysis, utilising available data including scientific information, claims and insured exposure

• Contribute to and lead Group projects as required, liaising with other teams globally.

• Produce customised reports on exposure and modelled results.

• Evaluate re/insurance pricing for individual accounts and product classes.

• Analyse catastrophe reinsurance structures and strategies to support reinsurance placements.

• Assist with the analysis of real time events and identify learnings from post-event reviews.

• Strong analytical and numerical ability, in order to interrogate large datasets

• Experience of working with re/insurance catastrophe data and/or catastrophe modelling software

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly

• Intermediate/Advanced Excel skills

• Pro-active attitude to identifying inefficient processes and developing improvements

Desirable Requirements

• Knowledge of commercial insurance and/or the catastrophe modelling industry

• Sound working knowledge of RMS/AIR and any other vendor modelling platforms

• Coding experience in a relevant language (e.g. SQL, VBA, R, C#)• Experience in using mapping software (e.g. GIS)

7. Technical Solution (SQL query)

  • Catastrophe Modelling Analyst in the Accumulation Management department, working with the Technical Solutions team
  • The Technical Solutions team is focused on developing customized in-house tools and databases for the Accumulation Management team, to streamline processes and organize data in an efficient manner
  • Technical role with large potential for growth in responsibilities
  • Develop an understanding of existing Catastrophe Modelling processes, licensed software, and the various in-house tools used to automate processes
  • Maintain existing Accumulation Management tools. Debug errors in the code when users experience issues
  • Assist users with technical questions. Explain how tools work and deliver training sessions when required
  • Test new functionality prior to launch to ensure that tools are working as intended
  • Support team to design and develop new tools to automate processes. Update user guides when needed
  • Work with colleagues around the globe on ad-hoc projects
