Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Supervisor to lead our Mechanical Fitting Trades team based at the Viva Energy Geelong Refinery. The Fitting team is responsible for maintaining critical rotating equipment, with activities split between workshop‑based maintenance and in field execution.

This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring strong technical credibility and inclusive people leadership to balance day‑to‑day operations with planned maintenance, breakdown response, major equipment upgrades and turnaround activities, while developing and engaging the workgroup.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise Mechanical Fitting team to safely and effectively deliver planned maintenance, breakdown response, project, and major upgrade (Turnaround) activities across workshop and field environments.
  • Ensure full compliance with statutory requirements, site standards, and business processes during maintenance execution.
  • Coordinate and support major equipment upgrade activities, working closely with the internal teams to define scope, schedule and execution plans.
  • Plan and allocate daily resources to ensure the right mix of skills and competencies, balancing operational demands, preventative maintenance compliance, and major equipment upgrades.
  • Drive safe, efficient, and cost‑effective maintenance execution by influencing labour, overtime, materials, spares, tools, and equipment usage, and adopting lean work practices.
  • Provide technical leadership and support for mechanical work scope in the field, including procurement input, in collaboration with the Workshop Engineer.
  • Lead team engagement and performance through recruitment, onboarding, communication, coaching and performance management.
  • Develop team capability by coaching Mechanical Fitting trades, supporting cross‑skilling, and overseeing the onsite development and progression of Fitting apprentices.
  • Maintain strong communication and collaboration with internal stakeholders to align maintenance priorities, execution plans, and operational outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Trade background in Mechanical Fitting, ideally with experience in construction, oil and gas, refining, or similar heavy industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising mechanical trades in a workshop and field‑based maintenance environment.
  • Strong experience in performance management, coaching and ensuring team meet behavioural expectations.
