Job Description
We’re looking for a Platform Technical Lead to play a pivotal role in designing, delivering, and operating secure, enterprise‑grade infrastructure that underpins Viva Group’s Energy, Commercial, and Retail businesses. This is a senior, hands‑on leadership role where you’ll combine deep technical expertise with people leadershipsetting direction, guiding engineers, and remaining close to the technology.
You’ll lead the design and operation of core infrastructure services across compute, storage, virtualisation, datacentres, and operating systems (Wintel/Linux), while ensuring high standards of availability, security, and performance. The role spans both build and run, covering monitoring and alerting, backup and recovery, patching, and compliance, with a strong focus on operational excellence.
Reporting to the Head of IT Infrastructure, you’ll collaborate closely with architects, application teams, developers, and business stakeholders, acting as the trusted technical lead for platform engineering. You’ll also shape and deliver a value‑driven infrastructure roadmap, mentoring engineers and ensuring platform capabilities evolve in line with Viva Group’s strategic objectives.
Responsibilities & Requirements
- Lead infrastructure design in partnership with architects and stakeholders, delivering secure, scalable, and resilient solutions across on‑prem, edge, remote sites, and cloud IaaS environments.
- Drive delivery and deployment of infrastructure solutions, including configuration, troubleshooting, proof‑of‑concepts, and coordination with vendors and project teams.
- Own platform operations across a 24×7 environment, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance through proactive monitoring and maintenance.
- Embed security and compliance standards across infrastructure, including patching, vulnerability remediation, and regulatory alignment.
- Lead incident response for major infrastructure outages, conducting root‑cause analysis and implementing preventative improvements.
- Optimise platform performance through capacity management, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage vendors and partners, evaluating technologies, influencing roadmaps, and staying ahead of industry trends.
- Partner with the business and senior stakeholders to translate requirements into practical, technology‑led outcomes.
- Lead and develop a team of engineers, setting clear objectives, mentoring talent, and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning
Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (Bachelor’s or Master’s).
- 10+ years’ experience in Senior/Lead Windows or Linux Systems Administration, operating at enterprise scale.
- Deep expertise across hybrid infrastructure environments, including:
- Server & hosting platforms (compute, virtualisation, OS) across on‑prem, remote sites, and cloud (Azure and/or AWS)
- VMware suite and enterprise virtualisation
- Active Directory & Group Policy (on‑prem and cloud)
- Azure Virtual Desktop and Remote Desktop Services
- Identity & access management, monitoring and alerting
- Server, storage, and network administration
- Proven experience architecting, building, and operating hybrid and cloud‑based systems end‑to‑end.
- Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and modern infrastructure tooling.
- Hands‑on PowerShell (and working knowledge of SQL scripting).
- Experience supporting multi‑site enterprise networks and physical/virtual infrastructure.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD tooling.
- Solid grounding in networking, security principles, and best practices.
- Demonstrated experience providing Level 3 support, incident response, and complex problem resolution.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience guiding blended teams of engineers, vendors, and contractors.
- Proven ability to contribute to technology roadmaps, budgets, delivery plans, and process improvement initiatives.
- Experience creating operational processes, documentation, job aids, and knowledge bases.
