Job Description
Global Procurement, part of the Global Finance organization, enables enterprise-wide value by leading the end-to-end sourcing of goods and services in partnership with business leaders. The function optimizes supplier selection across cost, quality, innovation, resilience, and risk, while ensuring compliance with regulatory and corporate standards.
Within Global Procurement, Technology Sourcing supports Visa’s Technology organization and its most critical initiatives. The Director, Global Technology Sourcing is a senior individual contributor and leader responsible for developing and executing technology sourcing strategies across key categories including software, SaaS, cloud, and AI. Reporting to the VP, Global Technology Sourcing or Sr Director, the role manages a significant spend portfolio, often 100M+ dollars annually, and serves as a trusted advisor to Technology, Finance, and Executive stakeholders.
Balancing strategic leadership with hands-on execution, the Director leads complex sourcing initiatives, negotiations, and supplier relationships to drive operational efficiency, value creation, and risk mitigation. The role is instrumental in translating enterprise Technology Sourcing strategy into actionable category plans that directly support the objectives of the VP, Global Technology Sourcing.
Key Responsibilities:
Stakeholder Engagement & Executive Partnership:
- Serve as a strategic business partner to senior Technology leaders VP, SVP-level+, aligning sourcing initiatives with business strategy, transformation priorities, and technology roadmaps.
- Build and sustain strong cross-functional relationships across Technology, Finance, Legal, Risk, Cybersecurity, Data Privacy, and Operations to ensure alignment and execution.
- Provide regular, clear, and executive-ready communications on deal status, pipeline health, category performance, savings delivery, and key risks.
- Support executive-level decision making by synthesizing complex technical, commercial, and market information into actionable recommendations.
Category Strategy & Market Expertise:
- Lead the development and execution of category strategies across assigned Technology domains, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities.
- Act as a subject matter expert in technology sourcing, including software licensing models such as perpetual, subscription, SaaS, cloud and AI services, and experience with infrastructure, telecom, and data center facilities.
- Conduct market intelligence, supplier benchmarking, and cost-model analysis to inform sourcing strategies and supplier decisions.
- Maintain a strong understanding of Visa’s technology landscape, supplier ecosystem, and external regulatory and market dynamics.
- Drive a sustainable and forward-looking sourcing pipeline by proactively engaging Technology stakeholders to anticipate future demand.
Strategic Sourcing & Commercial Negotiations:
- Lead highly complex, multi-business-unit sourcing initiatives, including RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs, to optimize total cost of ownership and long-term value.
- Structure and negotiate large-scale, enterprise-wide agreements, balancing commercial value, flexibility, innovation, speed-to-market, and risk.
- Partner with Legal and Risk functions to negotiate contract terms and conditions, serving as a first line of defense on commercial, compliance, and risk matters.
- Design and execute multi-vendor strategies to maximize leverage, foster competition, and enhance operational resilience.
- Track, validate, and report realized savings and value creation in alignment with annual targets.
Supplier Relationship Management & Performance:
- Build and manage strategic supplier relationships, influencing executive-level supplier stakeholders to drive value, innovation, and performance.
- Act as an escalation point for supplier performance, contractual issues, and disputes, ensuring timely resolution and continuity of service.
- Evaluate supplier capabilities and roadmaps to support innovation, scalability, and long-term partnership alignment with Visa’s.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement:
- Enhance sourcing effectiveness through disciplined processes, strong governance, and leveraging of procurement systems.
- Contribute to the modernization and continuous improvement of sourcing functions by leveraging data-driven insights, automation, and emerging technologies to enhance speed, transparency, scalability, compliance, and overall stakeholder experience.
This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- 10 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD
Preferred Qualifications:
- 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
- 8-10+ years of experience in strategic sourcing and/or procurement, with a strong focus on leading Technology category development and management.
- Deep expertise in technology sourcing (cloud, software/SaaS, AI), with working knowledge of hardware, infrastructure, and data center services.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing category strategies in large, matrixed orgs.
- Proven track record of leading complex negotiations and delivering measurable value.
- Strong financial and analytical acumen, cost modeling, and TCO analysis.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation skills, and effective communication at executive levels.
- Experience managing and influencing supplier executive relationships.
- High level of self-motivation and initiative, and ability to operate as a team player.
- Offer thought leadership, think creatively, and offer new ways of approaching old problems.
- CPSM or other relevant industry certification preferred.
- Background in software license compliance or IT asset management a plus.
Additional Information
Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.
Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for this position is 153,600.00 to 245,900.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
