Job Description
This position is for an experienced and proactive in-house product counsel with a strong background in the financial or tech industry. The role will be embedded in the growing Global Product, IP & Services Legal Team at Visa.
Responsibilities include supporting various Consumer Payments and Payment Platform products and services, both as product and commercial counsel, including Visa Developer Center and Visa Partner Platform. These segments constitute some of the core areas of Visa’s business and provide crucial assistance to our clients on a global scale. The successful candidate should show an interest in learning about the underlying technology, compliance requirements, complexities and practical use cases of Visa’s services and will work closely together with other experienced lawyers (including global regional, regulatory, privacy and sourcing colleagues), subject matter experts and product and sales stakeholders.

Primary responsibilities include:
Manage client relationships and provide day to day legal support and counseling to the relevant internal clients, covering all aspects of the services, including external facing communications, marketing materials, website terms of use, periodic global compliance checks, policy development and management, escalation management, negotiation and interpretation of agreements, and, if relevant, provide advice with respect to new features and products from development to launch to scale.
Act as lead counsel for the relevant team or product group, with the ability to identify when subject matter expert stakeholders need to get involved and when to obtain and coordinate the relevant stakeholder input.
Provide legal review and approval of presentations and other day-to-day work product and content created by the relevant product teams.
Assist in and drive the creation and updates of guidelines and templates to create greater efficiencies.
Work closely with Visa’s regional and local legal and business teams globally, and provide general guidance to these teams in resolving regional and local issues.
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
• 7 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD
• Significant experience in financial technology, payments and financial services, data protection, IP, basic privacy, contract and/or commercial law preferred.
• Admitted to bar in good standing or eligible for registered in house counsel in the state where this role is located
Preferred Qualifications
• 10 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD
• Prior experience in at least one of the following areas: payments, financial services, technology or fintech industries
• Confident, proactive, independent and can learn on the job
• Exceptional analytical ability and advocacy skills
• Excellent written, oral communication and negotiation skills, including extensive experience drafting commercial agreements, including clickwrap agreements
• Demonstrated experience working with sales teams and advising product teams, ability to drive execution in a team environment, integrating legal advice and business knowledge while providing balanced advice regarding risks and benefits
• Advanced business acumen, with the ability to understand the company’s business interests and anticipate the nature and magnitude of issues that could arise
• Demonstrated ability to understand underlying technical aspects and use cases of software based products and solutions
• Strong people skills with proven ability to build strong working relationships with internal clients and work with cross-functional teams on complex deals
• Practical and proactive problem-solver with the ability to successfully prioritize, calm under fire with a positive and collegial attitude and a sense of humor
• Strong ethical values
• Must be able to multitask and manage a significant workload and a number of clients with minimal supervision
Additional Information
Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.
Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 182,300.00 to 237,000.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
