Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Staff Software Engineer to become a part of our Reliability Engineering Automation team, a group that takes pride in maintaining the continuous and secure operation of Visa systems to meet round-the-clock business needs. The team's responsibilities include designing and developing efficient automation solutions following the best web development practices in the industry. As a member of this team, you will be tasked with taking ownership of crucial modules, conducting code and architectural design reviews, recommending best practices, and establishing design and development standards.

In the role of a Staff Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, improving, and constructing automation solutions for clients in a dynamic, agile setting. You will collaborate with team members throughout the organization who will both support and stimulate you daily. Your natural inclinations include designing solutions, coding, unit testing code, formulating test cases, automating these test cases, and regular check-ins for continuous integration. The position also necessitates leading the execution on essential modules and providing guidance to less experienced team members.

Our team, along with our department group, operates based on a unified software engineering model that encompasses both development and testing expertise. You are anticipated to possess practical experience and adequate knowledge to make contributions in both areas as required.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Good Understanding of Software Defined Operations (SDO) and Artificial Intelligence IT Operations (AIOPS)
  • Expertise in one or more configuration management tool: Ansible / System Center Orchestrator for managing medium & large environments (must have)
  • Experience building microservices, specifically with REST, JSON, XML and related areas.
  • Experience with relationship database.
  • Proven experience delivering highly scalable and available production automation systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and communication/articulation skills.
  • Strong business acumen, ability to grasp big picture and explain to team in simple terms.
  • Lead and provide technical mentoring to a team of talented engineers and train them on Automation best practices.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and software development lifecycle principles.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing top priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understand new system enhancement requirements and design test strategy & test cases & functionally test features end-to-end to ensure optimum quality of solutions being delivered.
  • Have exceptionally strong debugging skills to be able to find issues through execution of Automation suite and be able to analyze the problem through log stack trace or UI Console output to actual code / config that is causing problems to help fix the defect.
  • Leverage newer technologies and develop solutions to build the next generation of payment solutions.
  • Help our clients achieve their business goals by understanding their requirements and delivering the best solution.
  • Lead efforts to architect, design, and implement / test various aspects of secure payment solutions.
  • Lead meetings and discussions with product and architecture teams
  • Establish close working relationships with team members across different time zones within the organization.
  • Become knowledgeable of Visa's core technology, infrastructure, and visa cloud standards.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualification:
• 5+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualification:
• 6 or more years of work experience with a Bachelors Degree or 4 or more years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or up to 3 years of relevant experience with a PhD
• 6+ years in Software Engineering and Infrastructure automation experience with 2+ years’ experience in leading teams.
• Experience that will demonstrate proficiency and ease with one or more programming languages, quality assurance, scripting languages and operating systems.
• Extensive experience in software automation methodologies is required. Familiarity with continuous Integration/Delivery, and Test-Driven Development is beneficial.
• Practical experience in backend technologies such as Ansible, JAVA, SQL, and related technology stack, preferably involving open-source libraries, is necessary.
• Practical knowledge of Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Redis is highly advantageous.
• Expertise in various testing methodologies including functional testing, integration testing, regression testing, penetration testing, and performance testing is essential.
• Considerable experience with tools like Postman or any REST Client is a must. LINUX skills are also required.
• A strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, problem-solving, and complexity analysis is expected.
• Strong design, analytical, programming, and communication skills are needed, along with the ability to build stable solutions.
• Knowledge of microservices and practical experience with container platforms like Kubernetes, Docker, and OpenShift would be highly beneficial.
• Knowledge of Monitoring tools like Splunk, Opera, and Grafana would be highly advantageous.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 112,500.00 to 146,200.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
