Job Description

We are looking for a Director of Technical Accounting with a strong technical accounting background in US GAAP, specifically in accounting for derivatives, hedge accounting, foreign currency, investments, stock-based compensation, pension, cash flows and other treasury related matters. This is an individual contributor role on a team of four, reporting to the Head of Technical Accounting. This is a global position and will partner closely with Regional Accounting teams around the world, as well as Treasury, FP&A, Tax and HR, with routine exposure to the Corporate Controller, Assistant Controller, and Regional Controllers. This role also partners with the SEC reporting team to prepare and review sections of the Company’s quarterly and annual SEC filings (10-Q and 10-K).

Essential Functions
•    Act as Visa’s technical accounting subject matter expert, with a focus on derivatives, hedge accounting, foreign currency, investments, stock-based compensation, pension, cash flows and other treasury related matters. 
•    Exercise judgment within defined policies and authoritative literature to determine appropriate accounting on significant and unusual transactions. Ensure appropriate documentation of accounting treatment of complex and highly judgmental transactions, including analysis, relevant literature, and conclusion.
•    Evaluate the impact of certain new accounting standards, prepare assessment papers, and execute the implementation.
•    Create and maintain accounting policies and partner with stakeholders to operationalize accounting policies and procedures.
•    Participate in the preparation and review of financial statements and footnote disclosures for 10-Qs and 10-Ks as well as earnings materials.
•    Provide on-going technical accounting training to the finance organization.
•    Work with internal and external auditors to support quarter-end reviews and year-end audits by providing timely & accurate data and communication.
•    Assist in special accounting and finance projects on an ad-hoc basis.
•    Execute all responsibilities in compliance with our SOX 404 internal control framework.
 

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
• 10 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD
• Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP, specifically derivatives, hedge accounting, foreign currency, investments, stock-based compensation, pension, cash flows and other treasury related matters.
• 10+ years of relevant work experience, minimum 6+ years big 4 public accounting and industry experience with a large publicly traded company.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
• Strong technical writing skills and experience in the implementation and handling of complex U.S. GAAP accounting matters with proven ability to research, clearly articulate, and document complex technical accounting issues.

Preferred Qualifications:
• 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
• Well-developed problem-solving skills and ability to apply sound judgment in order to:
a. facilitate problem identification
b. generate alternative solutions

d. manage issues to a successful resolution.
• Ability to set and keep deadlines at a fast pace without losing accuracy.
• Outstanding organizational and project management skills with extensive experience managing multiple complex assignments simultaneously.
• Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, including written and verbal communication, especially in developing positions and presenting to management, auditors, and non-accounting stakeholders.
• Demonstrated professional commitment, initiative, accountability, and ownership of assignments.
• Experience in the preparation of financial statements and footnotes for a publicly traded company.
• A team player, adept at building relationships across the organization.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, power point and Outlook) required.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 138,500.00 to 180,000.00 USD, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
