Job Description

For Visa to deliver on the vision of the best way to pay and be paid for everyone, everywhere, the Operations & Infrastructure (O&I) group must provide best-in-class infrastructure services that are secure, scalable, continuously available, and run on software-defined infrastructures. The O&I group offers an exciting opportunity to work on latest technologies where the industry is going through major innovations.

This role is part of Platform as a Service (PaaS) organization within O&I, where you will be responsible to maintain database standards and best practices. You are also expected to spend 30-40% of your time to design and develop DB as a Service (DBaaS) offerings and database reliability enhancement solutions. In addition, you will be database subject matter expert for multiple applications and involved with complete lifecycle management of databases.

Essential Functions

Primarily engineering, deployment and support of NoSQL databases. This includes, but is not limited to following: 

  • Build, support and maintain database technology and infrastructure, adhering to the best practices, high availability, security, architectural guidelines and policies.

  • Develop, document and maintain standard DB deployment topologies, configuration standards, standard operating procedures and DB version roadmaps.

  • Certify new DB versions and automate patching/upgrades.

  • Assist product architecture and development teams with DB technology and topology selection, POC’s and support them during development lifecycle.

  • Participate in the evaluation, selection and onboarding of new DB products and DBA tools.

  • Engineer DB Solutions integrating, customizing, and enhancing Open-Source DB products.

  • Create functional design of Database as a Service (DBaaS) offerings and work with software engineers during development of DBaaS.

  • Develop/maintain Python/Shell scripts to automate DB maintenance, Security remediation, life-cycle management, Self-service offerings.

  • Proactive and reactive performance analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of escalated Level3 issues.

  • Develop solutions to enhance database reliability and observability

  • Physical implementation of databases, storage structures, high-availability solutions, replication, and disaster recovery solutions.

  • Work closely with other Infrastructure engineering, product development, business operations, and technical operations to ensure delivery of database services within the SLA’s and performance targets.

  • Work well as a team and as an individual with minimal supervision.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

5 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications:

6 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 4 or more years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or up to 3 years of relevant experience with a PhD

• Bachelor or Master Degree in Computer Science or related field
• 8-12 years of work experience with at least 5-7 years of DB Engineering/Administration experience primarily with NoSQL databases
• Recent 4 years of experience managing Cassandra and/or Redis databases
• Strong understanding of Cassandra and/or Redis architecture, internals and associated utilities.
• Good experience with Python/Ruby/Shell scripting and experience in configuration management tools like Ansible
• Good understanding of both relational and NoSQL database concepts/fundamentals.
• 7 years of relevant IT experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters)
• 5 years of DB Engineering/Administration experience primarily with NoSQL databases
