Registered in the U.S. 501(c)3 entity, Visa Foundation prioritizes the growth of gender diverse and inclusive small and micro businesses through its grantmaking and investing. The Foundation also supports broader community needs and disaster response in times of crisis. In April 2020, Visa Foundation launched the Equitable Access Initiative, a five-year, $200 million strategic commitment to support gender diverse and inclusive small businesses around the world. As a part of the initiative, Visa Foundation will provide $60 million in grants and $140 million in impact investments with a gender and diversity lens across the capital continuum.
The Grants Manager, Visa Foundation will be responsible for helping manage the operations and administration of the Foundation’s grantmaking strategy. The role will have primary responsibility for the vetting, tracking, processing, disbursing and reporting of contributions made by Visa Foundation. The Manager also will ensure that contributions are made in full compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and Foundation policies. The role will also provide targeted support to Visa Inc.’s philanthropic efforts, including the production of charitable giving updates and reports for internal partners and external stakeholders.
Lastly, the manager will work with internal and external implementation partners in translating Visa Foundation and Visa Inc charitable giving processes and policies into a grants management system. After implementation, the manager will then be responsible for the ongoing operation of the system, serving as the primary point of connection with the vendor and working to translate additional or changing business requirements into the system configuration.
The successful candidate will be a member of the Visa Social Impact team and will report to the President, Visa Foundation. The position will be based in Visa’s San Francisco or Foster City, California offices.
Specific responsibilities include:
Grant Management
Manage the processing of Visa Foundation charitable contributions, including vetting, supporting documentation, approvals, tracking, disbursements and record-keeping; and management of the third-party vendor(s) supporting these activities.
Grant Reporting
Ensure the timely submission of reporting requirements from Visa Foundation’s grant recipients; manage the production of regular giving reports on Visa Foundation and Visa Inc’s charitable giving, including requests for data on philanthropy benchmarking and external performance surveys.
Policy and Compliance
Manage Visa Foundation audit process and required IRS and state filings in coordination with external partners, and develops, writes, maintains, and implements all grants management policies and procedures. Ensure strong collaboration with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and other stakeholders.
Governance Operations Support
Support the operations of relevant foundation and corporate governing bodies, including preparation of quarterly meeting materials and reports, enactment of decisions, response to member requests, etc.
Budget Management
In collaboration with colleagues, manage grantmaking budgeting process, including forecasting, tracking and budget reconciliation.
Development of Grants Management System
Coordinate between Visa, the Visa Foundation and external vendor in the continued build and implementation of a grants management system intended to capture all charitable giving applications, approvals and reporting requirements. Process to include design, implementation and continued monitoring of grants management workflow processes and procedures; and overseeing of continual improvements to grants management operational systems, processes and policies. Serve as primary point of contact with external vendor to ensure coordination and alignment across Social Impact as well as the vendor.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- 5 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD
Preferred Qualifications
- 5-8 years of progressively responsible experience in roles managing the operations and administration of grant-making programs; Global or multi-national grants management experience strongly preferred
- Bachelor's Degree or higher
- Experience with the financial, legal and compliance issues pertaining to US-based private foundations, ideally in a corporate foundation environment
- Exceptional project management skills
- Self-starter with a passion to advance projects and bring forward new ideas. Ability to work within a complex and often ambiguous environment, including collaborating with and influencing various stakeholders regardless of reporting and functional lines
- Strong communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders. Extreme attention to detail required for materials and communications related to Board governance, reporting, etc.
- Experience in database implementation and transforming data management from a manual to automated process; experience specifically with Benevity-Versaic is a plus
- Team oriented, collaborative, positive, diplomatic, good-humored and flexible; willingness to accommodate schedules across global time zones as needed

This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, and reach with hands and arms.
This position requires the incumbent to be available during core business hours
This position requires the incumbent to travel for work 0-10% of the time.
