Job Description

 This newly-created position will be a key strategic adviser to our rapidly growing business in India and South Asia (“the region”) and will be required to develop effective working relationships throughout Visa, including Executive Management, Global Tax, Finance, Treasury, Legal, HR and Commercial teams.

 

The role is a senior leadership role within the region, reporting to our Vice President, Head of Tax – Asia Pacific, based in Singapore 

Responsibilities

  • Engage directly with senior executives, cross functional teams as well as external advisers to provide real time tax analysis and advice, including tax support for major client, merchant, and vendor deals
  • Provide tax support for key projects and initiatives, including but not limited to business restructuring, M&A integration, and IT system-related projects
  • Closely monitoring of tax law and regulatory developments, including liaising with government agencies and officials
  • Lead tax audit and litigation activities
  • Oversee corporate, transactional and indirect tax compliance activities in the region, including incentive filings to ensure all legal and regulatory obligations are met.  Provide guidance to enable Finance team to effectively manage all tax filings
  • Assist in the tax registration and deregistration of entities in the region
  • Manage relationships and engagement with Visa’s tax agents to ensure the services provided are completed within the scope of our agreements
  • Ensure all material tax positions taken are aligned, executed and well documented 
  • Review key tax work streams, identify tax related gaps in controls and processes and propose solutions to minimize tax risks
  • Drive tax resourcing initiatives that fulfills tax compliance obligations efficiently and effectively
  • Proactively monitor and analyze newly enacted tax legislations in the region; communicate relevant tax updates in a timely manner and ensure appropriate tax knowledge transfer to the finance and business teams
  • Follow tax digitalization trends and tax policy changes
  • Conduct health-checks & tax training regularly to ensure compliance knowledge for Finance team is up to-date

  • Willing to engage in a broad range of activities necessary to support the tax planning function

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A Chartered accountant with minimum 12-15 years of post-qualification experience in the field of taxation gained in a Big 4 and multinational in-house tax environment
  • Direct and indirect tax expertise required
  • SEZ knowledge preferred
  • Deep experience in managing tax assessments and appeals directly before the assessing officers and various appellate bodies
  • Experience with financial/accounting systems and setting up tax operations
