Job Description

Position Scope: The associate economist will help to advance VBEI’s expanding global coverage by combining Visa’s unique data assets, cutting-edge economic and econometric techniques, and external data sources to generate innovative business and economic insights. The scope of this role includes, but is not limited to, cross-border forecasting, research into the impact of digital technologies on consumer spending, measuring the evolution of the payments industry around the world, and global travel and tourism.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the principal global economist in researching and analyzing key macroeconomic trends as they impact consumer spending and the payments industry

  • Mine existing Visa data and create/develop business methods to forecast/track/communicate performance and industry change drivers 

  • Facilitate the sharing of economic analysis across departments to improve business performance and efficacy.

  • Analyze and interpret market data and economic conditions impacting the business-to-business payments industry to assist business planning and development 

  • Draft final reports and prepare and give formal and informal presentations for staff, senior management, and clients to ultimately influence business decisions. 

  • Position is project focused and typically requires managing multiple projects and priorities within strict time constraints  

  • Collaborate with colleagues in other geographies and teams to support the Visa Business and Economic Insights department 

Qualifications

  • Prefer advanced graduate degree in business or economics; however, relevant experience in lieu of advanced degree will be considered. 

  • 3+ years’ experience in the financial services or economic consulting industry.

  • Self-starter with an ability to manage priorities and adapt as required to an unstructured and fast paced work environment

  • Strong communication skills both written and oral
