Job Description

The Sr. Business Development Leader will report to Visa's Country Manager responsible for Mexico City, will closely implement and design strategies with all the groups that are required for projects and the Country Functional Heads. The position is based in the Visa Mexico City office.

Principle Responsibilities/Key Results Area
  • Ensure cooperation, liaison and communication across the Mexico market.
  • Identify opportunities for new business in market and develop and implement market entry strategies.
  • In conjunction with the Country Manager, represent Visa Inc. within Mexico for market activity across areas from sales to regulatory affairs to corporate and social responsibility by speaking at conferences and business meetings and undertaking media/public relations activities in the area to shape perceptions of the corporation. Work in unison with functional departments to maximize utilization of Visa Inc. leadership in this regard.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with client institutions and central banks and national banking associations; be aware of their views on development of banking and financial services industry.
  • Work closely with department heads to ensure consistency and shared objectives. Ensure that teams are aligned and briefed about clients’ and business partners’ environment.
  • Work with the Country Manager in Mexico to structure multi-year partnership programs with clients.
  • Delivery of sales targets.
  • Understand clients’ strategies, priorities, needs and business processes. Present strategic ideas and share Visa’s views on industry developments and dynamics and advise them how Visa products can impact their results.
  • Understand and influence product positioning and pricing of Visa and competitors’ products in clients’ product portfolios
  • Line management responsibility for Sales staff within the area of responsibility.
  • Attract, develop and retain extraordinary talent. Ensure succession planning is in place within key roles and maximize employee engagement in country.
  • Secure new business opportunities with clients, as well as "re-engagements opportunities" via a consultative sales approach in assigned clients.
  • Manage, facilitate and implement Visa’s services to meet client's business targets assignment objectives, project scope, budget, paperwork, project supervision and project delivery.
  • Initiate, develop and maintain business practices e.g., Consulting Practices for Debit, Premium Products, Acquiring, etc by developing engagements and benchmarking tools to support Visa clients' optimization of their operations and P&L's.
  • Develop and deliver client training programs and impart standard methodologies and knowledge sharing to Visa clients.
Strategic Nature, Management Accountability, & Scope

Key resource by being an important link with clients in order to implement the right strategy in order to satisfy the client needs. The role is sensitive in nature give exposure to highly confidential matters, some security related. This role is accountable for results of a strategically critical department.

Leadership of Visa Mexico in conjunction with the Country Manager, responsible for setting and directing business strategy, objectives and plans for the country/ market in the context of the overall Visa Inc. strategy and delivering against these plans.

Monitor the development of banking and financial services industry, analyze trends and understand factors affecting current and potential business results of Visa.

Ensure that strategic plans for the country are developed with, understood and shared by the supporting functions within Visa.

Decision-making & Complexity

Makes decisions that are strategic for the business which could impact functional areas. This position will implement and suggest solution alternatives in order to solve problems at the time that will be required. Works on highly complex issues with strategic and growth implications for the organization. The role is thought to have authority within the Sales function providing functional leadership and consulting with clients.

Develop, maintain and cultivate close relationships with decision-makers and senior management of banks, Governments, Central Banks and partner companies. Maximize awareness and preference for Visa in markets amongst key non-bank partners.

Participate in the development of Mexico strategy and key account plans by integrating and setting priorities based on information about the market, client’s business plans, Visa priorities and competitors’ activities. Identify success factors for progressive and dynamic business growth, develop and implement business development strategy accordingly, develop tactics and define actions to achieve defined goals.

Provide leadership and direction for all Markets in Mexico, priorities and all corresponding requirements on resource allocation.

Financial & Organizational Scope

Incumbents decision impact implementation of strategy and financial results for a function. Position contributes to run a cost center. Works on highly complex issues with strategic and growth implications for the organization.

Accountable for optimizing resources to achieve volume and revenue targets and P&L within defined market(s). Maximize value of investments in markets / country.

Reporting Relationships & Interactions

Reports directly to the Country Manager in Mexico City. Manages activities that closely collaborates with other functional areas. Leads an area within sales responsible for developing and implementing strategies for achieving short and long term objectives that align with the business.

Develop, maintain and cultivate close relationships with decision-makers and senior management of banks, Central Bank and partner companies and assist them to become more successful by using Visa products and services.

Build and maintain strong relationships with key individuals at Visa Inc. ensuring standard methodologies are highlighted and exchanged.

Qualifications

Ability to generate innovative creative solutions to unique problems and opportunities encountered in complex, and dynamic environments.

Education: Bachelor's Degree, Graduate/MBA preferred

Years of Experience: 8-10 minimum

Skills - Professional/Technical/Business
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
  • Retail banking experience (i.e., strong knowledge of banking consumer business - marketing, branches, consumer loans, operations, systems.)
  • International banking experience in either retail banking or the bankcard business.
  • Bankcard industry experience (strong knowledge base of the card business including account solicitation, account maintenance, operations, systems and risk management.)
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Deep consulting skills and client engagement capabilities.
  • Strong selling profile and a credible demeanor, with the ability to quickly become knowledgeable of Visa Consulting services to sell relevant assignments to clients.
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical skills.
  • Consistent record of leading and driving teams to achieve and exceed established goals.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Strong commercial acumen and solid business judgment.

  • Strong knowledge of card payments industry, its products, services and technologies
  • Knowledge of Visa's card products and systems process flows.
  • 15 or more years of professional experience
