Position Description

This senior level role is responsible for the planning, vision and execution of a business data platform strategy to enable analytic capabilities and sophistication. A successful candidate will lead the transformational change in the way we do business analytics at Visa. As part of the leadership team, the Senior Director will architect an enterprise Big Data strategy as the foundation for our client services analytics organization – a team spanning all of Visa’s business lines globally. This position will lead a multi-pronged focus to drive analytic enablement including construction of a centralized Big Data environment, enablement of self-service reporting and a suite of speed of thought/analysis tools. Partnerships with leaders across the organization – especially in technology – will be critical for both this role and the team at large. The best candidate will understand how to build relationship capital and, more importantly, when/how to use it. 

Responsibilities

  • Architect and execute a new data platform strategy utilizing Visa’s big data capabilities for the analytics organization. Solve for millions and billions, not hundreds and thousands.

  • Evangelize, mentor, and expand the adoption of emerging big data tools such as Impala, HPL, Spark, Python and Machine Learning libraries within the organization. Evolve a team of analysts into Big Data experts.

  • Collaborate with the Technology and Data Platform teams on tool/environment/infrastructure capabilities (Big Data/OLAP), development roadmaps, security, streamlined access protocol and data quality.

  • Lead the creation of business cases for investment in future tools and capabilities.

  • Continually evaluate and recommend improvements to systems and processes. Help define the next generation of data platform technologies and solutions to enable BI and Analytic solutions.

  • Implement and administer Metadata, Master Data Management, ETL, Data Quality, and Data
    Governance procedures and protocol.

  • Partner with reporting group to develop fit-for-purpose, end-user centric, dynamic reporting via automation and best in class data visualization software. Prioritize and manage overall schedule and portfolio of projects.

  • Blaze a trail of collaboration with product management to integrate custom analytic products into existing suite of data tools. Help bring analytic solutions to bear which delight our clients.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor/expert to internal business partners on advanced analytic and Big Data issues.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering or related field coupled with a Business degree or Quantitative Methods (Math, Stat, Econ) degree. Comparable experience may be considered in lieu of degrees.

  • 15+ years of experience which demonstrates a bias for action in creating data technology solutions with tangible business value and/or enablement of business insights.

    • 5+ years’ experience in architecting Big Data environments with working knowledge of Cloudera and Hortonworks frameworks. Specific knowledge of HDFS, Flume, Kafka, Spark (streaming + SQL), Hive, Impala, etc.

    • 5+ years’ experience leading world class data, analytic or BI teams

    • 10+ years’ experience with common coding languages – i.e. SQL, PLSQL, HPL, scripting and automation

  • Hands-on experience leading teams through the entire analytic development cycle – from data access and enablement to end state business solutions.

  • Extensive knowledge of integrating and leveraging leading business intelligence tools
    such as At Scale and Tableau

  • Extensive knowledge of data strategy including Big Data (Cloudera and Hortonworks frameworks), Data Governance, Metadata, Data Movement (ETL, ELT, EII and EAI), Data Modeling, Data Warehousing and Master Data Management.

  • Demonstrated ability working with data warehouses and data marts designed to support actionable customer analytics and insights.

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with big data concepts and solutions such as Data Lakes and Lambda.

  • Familiarity with advanced analytic techniques including predictive modeling, time series, longitudinal studies and statistical testing.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
