About Innovation and Strategic Partnerships
Visa’s Innovation and Strategic Partnerships organization is responsible for managing Visa’s overall innovation agenda and initiatives and the management of strategic partnerships with critical non-financial institutions. As part of Visa’s Strategic Partnerships and Innovation organization, The Venture Program engages with the venture capital and startup ecosystem to: (1) gain access to emerging technology and business models; (2) distribute Visa capabilities to new categories of partners, and (3) enhance Visa’s competitiveness via new business opportunities and an improved innovation pipeline. Through relationships with investors, startups and accelerators, the Venture Program identifies opportunities – evaluated against Visa’s strategic objectives – for investment, pilots/POCs and strategic partnership.


Responsibilities
This role will lead a team and identify, evaluate and execute potential transactions for Visa including acquisitions, equity investments, possible joint ventures, and other strategic initiatives.
The Vice President of Venture will lead a team of venture professionals and experienced business development professional, ideally with start-up or VC experience, capable of developing and managing Visa’s strategic relationships and related programs with the venture capital and fintech community at large. The role will drive all aspects of transaction evaluation and execution, from idea generation through valuation, due diligence and negotiation strategies.


Specific responsibilities
• Lead all venture activities for Visa globally including identifying, investing, deal negotiation, due diligence and portfolio analysis, including coordinating cross-functional teams to evaluate targets
• Drive the overall venture deal pipeline, including outreach to and sourcing of new opportunities within the Fintech ecosystem at large
• Oversee and lead industry research to identify opportunities for investment and access to technology within Visa’s existing businesses or expansion into new areas
• Partner with business teams on strategy development including identifying and prioritizing strategic gaps, evaluating proof of concepts/commercial/partner options and collaborating on target selection criteria and recommendations
• Lead and assist the negotiations of complex transaction terms and definitive documentation
• Develop detailed financial models and valuation analysis for potential investments
• Create investment conclusions and strategic presentations and presenting strategic recommendations including venture investment and valuation analyses
• Drive day-to-day management of current portfolio companies as well venture activities I&SP and Visa International (NA, APAC, EU, CEMEA & LAC
• Lead cross-functional regionals teams in developing venture investment business case analyses and executing and interfacing with finance, accounting, legal, tax, HR and other departments of Visa to ensure seamless deal execution.
• Define a venture playbook and franchise the overall methodologies to regional I&SP teams
• Play a key role in representing Visa in external forums and industry trade associations.
• Coach and mentor a team of investment professionals including but not limited to giving direction, providing feedback and focus resources of the most impactful investments opportunities.
• Support and advance the development of FinTech investment themes, establishing a network of venture and entrepreneurial resources to lead Visa into new adjacent areas.
• Monitor financial and operational conditions and industry dynamics of assigned portfolio companies and understand investment capital structure and shareholder rights, lead regular reviews with Visa senior management and lead follow on investments
• Represent Visa for board and shareholder fiduciary duties and proactively work with management and board of portfolio companies to execute growth and operational improvement strategies

Qualifications

• Typically requires 15+ years of total relevant work experience
• MBA or relevant graduate degree from top-tier institution or similar academic / professional experience
• Direct experience in Venture investment, execution and portfolio management
• Experience in and/or significant exposure to the financial services/payments industry or “fintech” needed
• Superior skills in strategic and financial modeling, analysis and research in heavily-transactional situations
• Excellent project, time, and budget management skills, and being able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously without sacrificing attention to detail.

• Global or multi-national business experience preferred
• Ability to handle projects with multiple work streams, with proven leadership success over a wide variety of functional business problems
• Ability to structure and manage complex cross-enterprise projects and processes with

• Superior analytical and problem solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and
analytical rigor
• Personal presence and ability to clearly communicate compelling messages to senior managers and external business partners
• Team oriented, collaborative, diplomatic, and flexible, with excellent presentation
skills, including strong oral and writing capabilities
• Domain expertise in payments ecosystem, data driven business models and private equity and/or venture capital, strategy and business development
• Demonstrated ability to orchestrate all diligence resources including internal and external parties
• Experience leading full due diligence process of fintech investments
• In depth knowledge of the venture capital terms and financing documents
• Ability to synthesize complex issues and communicate into simple message
