Job Description
CNBC Make It is one of CNBC’s most exciting and distinctive digital brands, reaching millions of aspirational, ambitious and career-minded readers who are looking for smart, actionable guidance on how to build a successful life. From career growth and leadership to money, work, entrepreneurship and personal ambition, Make It helps audiences navigate the decisions that shape their professional and financial futures.
We are looking for a strong story editor and creative editorial leader with sharp news judgment, excellent storytelling instincts and a deep understanding of what engages digital audiences. This editor will play a key role in shaping Make It’s daily and enterprise coverage, working closely with reporters, producers and senior editors to identify compelling angles, elevate story ideas and ensure every piece is clear, useful, memorable and true to the Make It voice.
The ideal candidate is both a rigorous editor and an imaginative thinker — someone who can sharpen a reported piece, improve structure and flow, craft irresistible headlines and leads, and help develop smart editorial franchises that connect with ambitious readers. They should be energized by stories about careers, success, leadership, money, work culture and the changing ways people define achievement.
This role requires a decisive editor who can balance speed, accuracy and creativity in a fast-moving digital newsroom. The editor will monitor the news cycle, spot emerging trends, assign and shape stories, and collaborate across editorial and audience teams to produce journalism that is timely, engaging and often service-driven.

This role is based in Englewood Cliffs, NJ and reports to CNBC’s Deputy Managing Editor for Money & Success.
Responsibilities:
- Edit and publish stories accurately and clearly on deadline in a fast-paced digital news environment
- Shape stories for structure, readability, flow, tone, voice, multimedia elements, and editorial and legal standards
- Write compelling, audience-focused headlines, leads and display copy that align with CNBC Make It’s brand voice
- Monitor news developments and identify timely trends, angles and coverage opportunities that will resonate with audiences
- Vet, shape and assign story ideas while collaborating closely with reporters, producers and senior editors
- Generate innovative story concepts and help execute recurring editorial franchises and series
- Coordinate with reporters, producers and cross-functional teams to ensure stories are completed efficiently and accurately
- Copy edit and fact check stories to maintain the highest journalistic standards
- Exercise strong news judgment and make quick editorial decisions in a fast-moving news environment
- Collaborate with editorial leadership on short- and long-term content planning and social strategies
- Ensure CNBC Make It content reflects strong digital storytelling and audience engagement best practices

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Salary range: $90,000-$130,000.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- At least five years of editing experience in a digital newsroom or publishing environment
- Exceptional writing, editing and copyediting skills with the ability to write clean, engaging copy quickly and with a nod toward enterprise
- Strong understanding of digital news production and journalistic standards
- Proven ability to make complex topics accessible and engaging for a broad audience
- Experience editing short and long form with accuracy, readability, structure, tone and legal standards in mind
- Demonstrated ability to work quickly and effectively under deadline pressure
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Desired Characteristics:
- Background in business, personal finance, careers or lifestyle journalism
- Strong understanding of audience engagement and digital storytelling best practices
- Experience generating and executing editorial franchises, series and trend-driven coverage
- Proficient in AP style and comfortable with light photo editing
- Experience at a large digital publisher, major online news site or financial publication
- Ongoing interest in business news, workplace trends, personal finance and consumer-focused storytelling
- Collaborative team player with strong communication skills and sound editorial judgment
