Wood Mackenzie Research Internship

Summer 2021

Team: Oils & NGLs Fundamentals

Location: Mexico City

About the role

The Early Intern Experience is an opportunity for students to get a unique understanding of the workplace, while still early enough in their studies to allow the experience to shape their educational programs. We invite expected 2023 and 2024 graduates to apply to this paid position. During the course of 12 weeks, you will have an opportunity to join our team and collaborate on short and long term projects that contribute to business success.

Based in our Mexico City office, working alongside experienced research analysts, you will gain first-hand experience of what it’s like to work in a commercial data and research environment.  Our aim is to give you a comprehensive insight into the work of a leading research organisation looking at all aspects of the natural resources to provide world leading subject matter expertise to inform our customers decision making.

  • You will actively contribute to a research project, enabling you to put theory into practice, obtaining relevant and work experience for your resume
  • You will be encouraged to share your ideas and previous experiences with the team
  • You will learn new skills which will be of value to you in your future career and current academic studies
  • Access to a community of other interns in the same situation
  • You will be provided with excellent support and coaching to get the best out of your internship

You will be responsible for the following projects:

1.      Oil Demand:

a)      Expand rail price database.

b)      Review biofuel blending mandates and installed capacity for biofuels production in the region.

c)      Compile information on Electric Vehicle projects in the region.

2.      Product Markets:

a)      Create a month-on-month review file per country and for short-term deliverables 

b)      Align Product Market balances with long-term trade service data for North American regions.             

3.      Refinery Evaluation Model:

a)      Review the Latin America specifications.

b)      Compile margin information from annual reports by company.

c)      Review information on refineries with less than 50 kb/d capacity

d)      Update transportation/utility costs

Qualifications

About you and how you can excel in this role

You are currently studying towards an under-graduate or post-graduate degree course or MBA, ideally in your second year of your studies (expected graduation dates in 2023 – 2024).

You are looking for a place where you can gain experience and learn from others in a collaborative, commercial and customer-centric environment.  

You can work independently and as part of a team, generating ideas you want to share. The way in which you work is productive and driven, striving to be best in class.

If you are curious about the natural resources industry and want to develop an in-depth understanding of the energy sector, this is a great experience to get started.

Your qualifications include:

  • Working towards a minimum of bachelor’s degree in a related field such as business, finance, economics, earth science or engineering
  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • English (fluent spoken and good written)
  • Experience working with data visualization tools (Spotfire, Power BI, Tableau - an advantage)
