Job Description

Wood Mackenzie Chemicals provides integrated commercial and strategic subscription research and consultancy services for the petrochemicals, intermediates and polymer applications sectors. We provide insight combined with proprietary data, helping companies identify trends and take advantage of opportunities.

The Data Analyst will maintain data and develop the systems used to create and deliver content to customers and our internal stakeholders. 

You will have a good understanding and ownership of the specific data domain or content area that you cover. You will have a deep understanding of the data, its relationships and connections, how it can be used, and the impacts of changes made to it. You will be an expert user of the data and have the primary responsibility for the sourcing, maintenance, quality and control of data for your respective coverage area. You will regularly perform data extracts, interpretation and reporting of data to derive or support analysis with your industry specialist colleagues. 

The successful candidate will have experience working with data and demonstrate an affinity with numbers. You will have basic skills in SQL and understanding of NoSQL or relational databases like SQL Server. You have intermediate skills in a data visualisation package such as Spotfire, PowerBI, Tableau, or GIS; plus full proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint. You understand how web scraping methods can be implemented. You have experience with a programming language such as Python.
Relevant commercial or industrial knowledge of the chemical sector would be advantageous but not essential.

You have excellent  attention to detail and ability to work on large datasets accurately. You have excellent problem solving, and analysis skills coupled with great communication skills. You enjoy sharing what you have learnt with others.

Qualifications

  • Key user of Data platform. Applying best practices to utilise or maintain databases, tools, models and processes solutions from data sourcing to client delivery
  • Provide specialist skills in data analysis. Take responsibility for the ownership or manipulation of data
  • Data owner, improve quality of data, demonstrate initiative and good understanding of databases structure
  • Develop working relationships with Research Analysts and other business functions. Work with Data Engineers to ensure ingestion of data and improve efficiency of processes
  • Fulfil data requests on time and with high quality, whilst following procedures and best practices. Pull together datasets to derive insight or analysis.
