Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

This position is accountable for installing and maintaining machinery and equipment in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner, performing facilities management including facility maintenance (office, production and grounds), selection and coordination of vendors, skill training, leading the maintenance team and ensuring compliance with company and government regulations.

KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operations: Responsible for the planning and execution of a quality preventative maintenance program to maximize equipment life and operational efficiencies according to Valassis Lean Principles and manufacturer specifications. Responsible for the engagement of service / facilities suppliers and monitoring of contracts related to facilities. Responsible for the coordination of schedules, plans, and documented training with other department managers for maintenance and operational associates. Develops and tests equipment improvements to continuously improve operational efficiencies and cost effectiveness of production. Supports corporate maintenance on an “as needed” basis. (e.g. plant relocations, training, etc.). Actively participate on cross-functional branch management teams to proactively resolve branch issues utilizing Lean Principles and techniques. Perform any other tasks as assigned by management to achieve overall objectives of the organization. 
  • Compliance: Responsible for insuring that all equipment has the proper safety devices/protection, is safe to operate, and proper housekeeping practices are implemented, standardized, and sustained. Responsible for maintaining the facility in compliance with local, state, and federal codes and Valassis policies. Responsible for supporting safety initiatives and safe working conditions; (e.g., Hazcom, Hazardous Energy Standard, machine guarding, etc.) Ensure OSHA compliance; implement the Injury/Illness Prevention Program by providing a safe and secure environment for all associates through heightened safety awareness training and feedback of safe working techniques and housekeeping practices.
  • Supervise: Supervises a highly trained and motivated maintenance team to support all operations functions on all shifts. Provide fair and consistent administration of company policies and procedures regarding attendance, safety policies, job performance, etc. to ensure positive associate relations. Conducts interviews, provides training, completes performance reviews, and gives coaching and feedback to team members. Supports diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Educates others and builds a diverse workforce. Promotes, supports compliance initiatives, and participates in diversity programs at locations. 
  • Budgeting: Cost effective management of parts inventory in accordance with corporate operations policies and procedures. Responsible for managing appropriate cost centers, including fixed and variable cost. 

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in or equivalent industry certification, in Facilities Management and/or Associate's Degree, or equivalent industry certification, in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechanical Field (Preferred)

EXPERIENCE

  • 2-4 years Facilities management experience (Preferred)
  • 2-4 years Experience performing and leading the electromechanical maintenance of automated industrial machinery and equipment. Ideal candidate will have experience with Ferag, Müller Martini, and Videojet equipment (Preferred)

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSURES

  • Preferred CertIfications/Licensures: (Machine Automation, Electromechanical, HVAC, etc.)

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Interpretive thinking and considerable judgment to develop integrated solutions for maintenance/manufacturing problems and issues.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert in the maintenance function.
  • Firsthand working knowledge of all regulatory compliance programs (OSHA, EPA, etc).
  • Ability to seek cooperation, persuade and influence associates, peers, and internal/external customers.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to establish and maintain high performing work groups.
  • Familiar with tools including forecasting, data analysis, work cell organization, goal setting, lean manufacturing, 5S, summarizing and reporting results.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Ability to support multi-shift operation and work extended hours, weekends, holidays as required to meet business needs.
  • Bilingual preferred (if applicable).

EQUIPMENT/SOFTWARE UTILIZED

  • MS Office: Windows, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and internet software.
  • Inventory Software, Manufacturing Software, and Order Processing systems.

Additional Information

Salary range $85,000 to $ 95,000          

The ultimate compensation offered for the position will depend upon several factors such as skill level, cost of living, experience, and responsibilities.
