Job Description

Primary Responsibilities:

The Production Planner coordinates, plans and manages the production schedule for the Suez Water Technologies & Solutions manufacturing facility or toller, and develops initiatives to improve inventory levels, minimise scrap/waste and slow moving non-moving materials.  

The Production Planner will not only participate, but take a lead role in continuous improvement activities of diverse scope and complexity to improve the efficiency of planning to meet customer demand. In addition, they will monitor production progress and identify possible problem areas in time to take corrective action and meet the customer OTD.

You will be required to focus on achieving performance objectives which are in line with the organisation’s vision and overcome those obstacles that may inhibit Suez from achieving these business goals.

You are required to:

  • Investigate and develop new avenues to achieve optimum production and throughput
  • Accurately monitor and maintain production schedules to satisfy customer orders and forecasts
  • Coordinate with the Commercial team to maintain a strong demand planning rigor
  • Manage planning  performance by addressing day-to-day issues and adjust operations to meet changing demands

As the Production Planner, it is expected that you continuously raise the standard of your plant/site performance by developing, inspiring, challenging and demonstrating operational excellence for the region. 

This critical role has the following key accountabilities:

  • Plan, schedule, coordinate and approve release of process orders to manufacturing based on material and capacity availability.
  • Provide input to management; reschedule and/or interface with customer service, PSI, customers and operations to reschedule production in the event of demand changes, labour and material shortages, backlogs and other potential schedule interruptions.
  • Utilise the current SAP system and worksheets that support production planning, capacity planning, and operational management.
  • Analyse customer demand information, forecasts, customer orders, vessel optimisation, labour and material availability and develop a flexible yet efficient production schedule.
  • Review MRP prompts, demand plans, Inventory reports to determine what changes need to be made to the schedule to accommodate latest demand change with balance between production optimisation and inventory levels.
  • Create and maintain production plans while considering the raw materials and resources available to manufacture products by the customer required dates. 
  • Perform the detail capacity planning on constraints on equipment, labour, and vessel space; review the scheduled load and compare it to available tank or toller capacities and adjust the schedule to alternative with maximum capacity optimisation.
  • Manage and update the production schedule based on demand and availability of Raw Materials
  • Work with Sourcing to coordinate the timing of materials required to be delivered
  • Work with Production/Toller to ensure the planned schedule is executed efficiently and meets current demand
  • Analyse inventory levels associated to production in comparison to demand variation and future forecast to determine best combination of raw materials and reasonable stocks.
  • Participate in daily production review meeting on production to track output and issues in real-time; interact with Supply Chain team on a daily basis to resolve issue regarding production schedules and adjust schedule upon latest change to meet service requirement by minimised interruption
  • Provide suggestions to Production Manager, PSI, Supply Chain leaders on process improvements
  • EHS, Quality and compliance

  • Developing and leading by example on a positive safety culture that drives down the number of recordable incidents and accidents, as well as first aids. 
  • Report all occupational injury, illness, near miss incidents, environmental spills, and quality issues regardless of its severity.

Core Duties

  • Production Control
  1. Monitor & review production plan/progress against deadline targets to ensure on time delivery.
  2. Adjust the production schedule as required and communicate any change to delivery date with the PSI, commercial team, and customer service accordingly.
  3. Ensure that all production related activity is value added & cost effective.
  4. Be capable of translating the production plan into a time-phased planning schedule.
  5. Implement the most cost effective bills of material (BOM’s) are used as part of the production of finished goods
  6. Utilise supply chain methodologies to ensure accurate and timely production order generation
  7. Understand the role of managing stock in SAP and manage schedule changes through the SAP 
  • Demand management and forecasting
  1. Understand the principles and applications of demand forecasting.
  2. Have knowledge of the critical requirements for effective forecasting: establishing time horizons, determining the level of forecasting detail, and determining the forecastable database.
  3. Be capable of establishing a close relationship with the commercial team to ensure forecast accuracy.
  4. Be able to apply various methods to work with random, seasonal, trend, and cyclical impacts.
  5. Establish key performance indicators of forecast accuracy.
  6. Ensure the interaction with the PSI and commercial team, and track and maintain the forecast through timely and accurate feedback
  • Capacity management

  1. Understand capacity management relationship to MRP.
  2. Establish, measure, monitor, and adjust capacity levels to execute all production schedules.
  3. Determine available capacity before planned Purchase Rec’s and PO’s are released.
  4. Engage in capacity management during sales and operations planning, production scheduling, materials requirements and planning.
  • Inventory Levels

  1. Maintain inventory at Op Plan target levels 
  2. Project inventory levels on a quarterly basis and achieve desired inventory turn targets.
  3. Manage all SMNM targets and ensure these are reviewed with the commercial team to avoid obsolesces
  4. Monitor inventories, RM shortages in relation to all planned orders for the Value Stream and work with sourcing to coordinate deliveries of required components or Raw materials.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Industrial or Chemical Engineering, other Engineering or Business.
  • Minimum 5 years of SCM experience, preferably currently having the same role in a manufacturing company. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills, e.g.facilitating team meetings and engaging groups to achieve outcomes
  • Strong interpersonal skills ; Conflict resolution skills, understanding of impact of self on others, Influencing skills
  • Ability to incorporate multiple points of view and synthesize into singular plans of actions
  • Strong operational experience with the ability to establish and measure KPI’s.
  • Proven analytical, evaluative and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Financial acumen.
  • Experience in managing continuous improvement projects.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Proficient in ERP systems and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of SAP and MS Office software (Excel, Powerpoint etc.)
  • CPIM or CSP
