Job Description

Position Purpose: 

The purpose of this position is to provide functional guidance to project engineers who directly manage capital project activity. That person will also have responsibility for holding the engineer accountable for spending on the project, as well as meeting the business objectives of their projects. In addition, the manager will provide oversight for and coordination of the capital budget.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Provides direction and work assignments to project engineers, project or construction consultants, and similar technical resources.
  • Coordinates activities of direct reports to support projects, business development, turnarounds, or general maintenance/plant troubleshooting.
  • Supervisors and develops personnel through the use of managing processes.
  • Provides maintenance excellence support through the development of maintenance best practices and coaching/training in the use of SAP PM.
  • Directly supports high profile programs with their direct reports where their involvement.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background: 

  • Possesses a 4-year engineering degree or greater from an accredited university, typically ChE, ME, or EE.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Understanding of complex technical problems and solutions.
  • Assessment skills involving capital management and construction support.
  • Use of spreadsheets, SAP, and other tools to evaluate spend vs. budget or outlook, scheduling, and related metrics.
  • Judgement with regard to the efficient use of functional (project) personnel.
  • Engineering background sufficient to understand sound engineering practices and concepts, even if not in their area of concentration (say, electrical, chemical, mechanical, etc.)
  • Communication skills at both detailed and summary level, as needed/required for the audience.
  • Organizational skills, managing a multiple people who are managing multiple projects as well.
  • Coordination skills, handling multiple activities (by priority) at the same time.
