Job Description

Pay Rate: $31.13 to $34.10 per hour.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Performs all field functions relating to direct customer interface at their premises (residential, commercial and industrial) starting at the curb stop/box through the service line and the meter, including all reading devices, pits, boxes, etc., including: meter readings (all types and purposes), meter investigations, incidental or emergency, settings, changing, field testing for flow and/or pressure, service shut offs, inside leak investigations (customer owned line), frozen meter repairs.
  • Performs all functions relating to meters including setting, changing, disconnecting, repairing, field testing for large meters and reading (final reads, special reads and high bill investigations).
  • Removes, changes, installs and/or repairs meter equipment (e.g., MIU’s (meter Interface Units)/radio).
  • Locates and operates curb stops and valves, water services, meters and recording equipment.
  • Reports unusual conditions observed on the customers premises which could have an effect on company-customer relations including potential cross connections, illegal connections/uses, etc.
  • Reports unresolved customer inquiries and/or complaints to the Customer Service Supervisor.
  • Completes necessary paperwork and utilizes Company equipment and associated programs (i.e.CMMS, GIS, CC&B, etc.) to document daily activities.
  • Completes calls and relays information as necessary, and calls customers to arrange appointments for field visits ( if necessary).
  • Reports to the Customer Service Supervisor.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background: 

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • One (1) year of experience in water system operation and maintenance.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training: 

  • Must be holding and maintaining a Massachusetts Grade 1 (full) Distribution Certification or;
  • Must obtain a Massachusetts Grade 1 (full) Distribution Certification within eighteen (18) months of hire into position as a condition of employment.
  • No more than two (2) certification tests/training classes will be provided at Company expense.
