Position Purpose:
O&M Lead Operator is responsible for performing various general labor activities that include the operation & maintenance of various equipment at different facilities. Must have the ability to operate air compressor and pneumatic equipment. Ensures mechanical readiness of plant equipment and processes through the proper development and implementation of maintenance procedures.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for operating and monitoring Main Control System, either manually or by computer interface.
- Performs regular checks of equipment conditions, noting deficiencies and following maintenance procedures. Notifies supervisor of needed maintenance.
- Communicate effectively written and oral methods with co-workers, supervisor, managers, and others when necessary.
- Other duties as needed and as assigned
- Carries out the position responsibilities in accordance with OSHA and company safety policies and procedures.
- Shift work and on-call duty will be required.
Work Environment:
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
- Vocational or Associates Degree in a related field or completion of an applicable Apprenticeship Program is preferred. Experience may be substituted for formal education.
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in a water and/or wastewater treatment industry while holding certification.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of water and wastewater treatment facilities and operations.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment, boom truck, operates power equipment, compressor, and electric generators.
- Strong working knowledge of basic hand and power tools.
- Candidate must be capable of being assigned in responsible charge of the facility with an ability to react to unplanned events.
- Candidate must be able to operate the Wastewater/Water facility to meet Federal or State regulatory limits.
- Ability to read technical material, blueprints (understands symbols). Knowledge of codes, safety devices and procedures.
- Must have detailed knowledge and understanding of hazardous material handling, storage and usage.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- MS Wastewater IV or higher/Water A Certification as required by facility being operated.
- Certification required to progress.
- Must have valid Mississippi driver’s license (CDL preferred) and the ability to meet risk management guidelines.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb stairs or ladders; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell.
- The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to distinguish color, close vision and distance vision.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces.
