Job Description

Job Summary
This position advances Veolia’s GreenUp goals of promoting sustainability and improving the environment by reducing water usage and carbon emissions within our company and for our customers.
The position is based in the Technology or R&D department in Minnetonka, MN, and also involves travel to other Veolia and customers sites that will test or implement our new membrane separation products.
The work is mostly on site, and requires working with internal and external manufacturing and project teams as well as Technologists. The position reports to the Manager of Membrane Technology and works largely independently with the manager while helping to build a new team and membrane product line. The job involves strong chemical formulation and synthesis skills, some chemical and mechanical engineer skills, manufacturing and production engineering aptitude, as well as interest in research and product development.

Duties & Responsibilities

● Lead process development and scale-up of new membrane processes from lab to pilot to production scale.
● Transfer membrane processes to external toll manufacturers, involving up to 20% travel.
● Synthesize custom polymers for use in separation membrane and work on sourcing novel polymers to custom or toll manufacturers
● Fabricate membrane module prototypes, develop efficient and effective manufacturing
processes, source materials used in module fabrication.
● Design, build and use test equipment for separation membranes.
● Develop test procedures to characterize membrane quality for specific applications.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
● Knowledge: .
o Fundamentals of Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering
o Fundamentals of Membrane Science.
● Skills:
o Good communication and presentation skills
o Chemical or polymer synthesis
o Project management acumen
o Manufacturing engineering and process development
o Adept at working with chemicals and equipment used in membrane manufacturing and
module construction

● Abilities:
o Safely and comfortably works with chemicals and equipment from lab scale up to
industrial scale.
o Creativity in design and implementation of new chemical processes
o Mechanical aptitude in building, troubleshooting and servicing equipment

Qualifications

Education & Experience
Required:
● BS, MS or PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Membrane Science or similar area.
● Industrial work experience for BS or MS candidates of 5-10 years, PhD candidates without
industrial work experience will be considered
Preferred:
● Project management experience
● Industrial experience
