Position Purpose:

Inspects, maintains, repairs, and installs electrical systems, instrumentation systems, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment, and fixtures.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electromechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment according to vendor specifications.
  • Inspects and troubleshoots electrical and instrumentation systems, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices, gauges, and other tools of the trade; obtains necessary parts through established procedures.
  • Performs electrically related activities; and installs new or replacement electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Calibrates instrumentation, valves, flow meters, etc. Zeros and spans, debugs, and adjusts. 
  • Programs variable frequency drives. Tunes controllers, valves, actuators, etc.
  • Downloads and restores stored data in PLCs, controllers, eproms, etc.  Pulls up SCADA/PLC control strategies, looks at I/O for errors, diagnoses and resolves communication circuit problems, etc.  Changes I/O modules, PLCs, etc.
  • Completes tasks and repairs common to their licensed specialty,
  • Reports and documents result of inspections and work performed, enters data into computer programs, and prepares labor and material estimates.
  • Operates vehicles and mobile equipment for plant maintenance purposes.
  • Trains peers and subordinates as requested.
  • Assures work is performed in a safe and professional manner by following established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures, and in conformance with relevant building and electrical codes.
  • Performs cleanup and housekeeping tasks for work area, tools, and equipment.

Work Environment:

  • Requires working in outside and inside environments with noise and all temperatures and climatic conditions and must be able to work under adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs for maintenance management.
  • Requires working knowledge of the standard practices, common tools, materials, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade as acquired through four years of on-the-job electrician/instrumentation experience.
  • Requires basic knowledge relating to the maintenance of pumps, blowers, compressors, and other electrically driven equipment.
  • Must have the ability to safely operate material handling equipment; and to apply electrical methods to the maintenance of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Requires good reading, math, writing, scientific, and verbal communication skills; and the ability to read wiring diagrams, sketches, blueprints, specifications, and vendor instructions.
  • Requires the ability to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Requires ability to plan, organize, train, and functionally supervise subordinates.
  • Must have the ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have an Electrical Journeyman’s License; Other Nationally Recognized Licensed Trades will be considered for the position. Consideration will be based upon the needs of the facility.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in various positions which require bending (60%), walking (25%), standing (10%), and sitting (5%).  Requires lying on back, kneeling, crawling, twisting, and squatting.
  • Must be able to distinguish green indicator lights from red.
  • Body movements require working with hands extended above and below head and from body, using hand tools weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to lift and carry 60 pounds in standing and bending positions and carry while walking distance of 10 feet.
  • Ability to work on ladders, catwalks, and supports at heights of 50 feet above the ground.
