Position Purpose:
We are seeking an Environmental Specialist with knowledge of chemistry and experience with hazardous waste management. Responsibilities include manifesting, packaging, spill response, labeling, loading/unloading, coordinating transportation, and sampling/profiling material while adhering to state and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Primary Duties/responsibilities:
- Create Hazardous Waste Manifests and Land Disposal Restriction Notification and Certification (LDRs) forms
- Identify RCRA and DOT regulated waste for the purpose of proper waste management and shipment preparation for off-site treatment and disposal
- Lab pack waste by identifying, categorizing, and segregating chemicals based on DOT and EPA requirements, chemical characteristics and disposal facility guidelines
- Interpret waste flow volumes using forecasting trend lines and flow rates
- Create railcar waybills for bulk waste shipments
- Perform site inspections including Subpart BB and Subpart J
- Classify, inspect, and prepare Hazardous Material and Waste for shipment following International Air Transport Association (IATA) regulations
- Load box vans using forklifts, pallet jacks, and drum dollies
- Assist the customer in miscellaneous site wide waste management needs
Work Environment:
This is a compressed work schedule of 12 hours shifts - 3 days on with 4 days off one week followed by 4 days on with 3 days off.
Qualifications
Education / Experience / Background:
- High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related science discipline preferred
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
- Strong team player
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple deadlines and simultaneous tasks
- Strong customer service orientation
- Computer proficient in windows, word, excel, and e-mail at a minimum
- Ability to follow through on assignments
- General knowledge and understanding of basic chemistry
Required Certification / Licenses / Training:
- Valid Drivers License
- Ability to obtain a Class A or B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Hazardous (H) endorsement
