Operating Engineer IV (OE IV)

Job Description

Under supervision, and on a rotating shift and relief basis, performs duties of assigned position within a wastewater treatment plant setting. Work is performed in an industrial environment with frequent, unavoidable exposure in temperatures, fumes, noise, dust, wet, odors and gases. Work is performed on rotating shifts.

 Required to follow all applicable safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in performance of assigned duties. Is required to participate in all required safety training activities. Is expected to report any unsafe conditions encountered in performance of duties.

 Under supervision, monitor and control equipment listed below whose monitoring devices and control are located in the Central Control Room and the operating floor within the Power House building Equipment:

 Gas turbine control panel

 Supervisory control board

 Electrical switchboards

 Dispatch board

 Computer Control system

 Operate communications center: handle incoming and outgoing mobile communications, answer and channel incoming plant calls

 Visually inspect above listed equipment and operate same equipment by local control when necessary, maintain log sheets and change charts on a fixed time schedule. Adjust systems and controlled equipment to meet management and operational requirements

 Respond to equipment problems: shutting down, starting up, standby, and requesting maintenance as appropriate

 Maintain record of equipment status

 Assist in training of personnel

 Cogeneration startup, if necessary

 Performs other duties of a similar level and nature as assigned

Qualifications

 

  • High school diploma or GED Equivalent required
  • Four years’ experience operating Power House equipment in plants containing high-pressure boilers
  • Four years’ experience of operating turbines or generators preferred
  • Communicates effectively via written and oral methods with co-workers, supervisors, managers, and others when necessary
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license
  • ASOPE First Class Operating Permit required.
