Job Description

As a Mechanical Engineer for the Industrial Automation Applications team at Vention, you will be the mechanical focal point for automated applications. You will be responsible for designing testing and productizing automation and robotics solutions which leverage Vention’s hardware, automation and software ecosystem. You will be responsible for the mechanical integration of all Vention's industrial automation applications. Among others, typical solutions that are in the scope of this role are: cartesian palletizers, cobot palletizers, industrial palletizers and cobot box erectors. You will work closely with robotics engineers, automation engineers, electrical engineers and mechanical engineers.

Reporting to the VP of Automation Engineering you will:

  • Lead mechanical design and integration (links between systems, sensors, tie-in points, product conveying and behavior, etc) of automated solutions such as cobot palletizers, industrial palletizers, cobot box erector and others.
  • Work closely with automation and robotics engineers during the tests to identify mechanical roadblocks and to quickly find solutions.
  • Contribute to pre-sales design reviews of applications to ensure process feasibility and complexity.
  • Actively contribute to the applications roadmap and participate in all product development phases, such as: scoping, design, validation, product integration, and product launch.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers who design components that will be integrated in the Vention ecosystem. You will guide them to make sure their components will answer the needs of our applications and platform.
  • Be responsible for safety, pneumatic, mechanical systems integration and final BOM for automated applications.
  • Act as a gripper expert for Vention.
  • Design mostly in Vention’s MachineBuilder software but also in Solidworks for prototyping and concept validation activities.
  • Validate, integrate, and configure parts from selected manufacturers, ensuring compatibility with the rest of the platform and compliance with Vention standards.

  • Create technical documentation to support productization of new automated Applications.
  • Create various design options and variation prior to application launch and publish them in Vention’s public design library
  • Support development of product marketing assess as part of the launch of new applications
  • Work with various hardware engineers to safeguard and maintain the platform architecture, limiting new components, re-using existing one, conforming to previous agreed design principle and vendor selections

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or mechatronic engineering.
  • Demonstrated expertise in industrial automation
  • 5 – 8 years of experience in multidisciplinary industrial automation projects
  • Member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec is an asset.
  • Experienced user of Solidworks
  • Knowledge in electromechanical and pneumatic equipment (sensors, motors, cylinders, etc.).
  • Familiarity with programming language such Python and LabView an asset.
  • Recognized for their leadership and capacity to execute, work in team with strong analysis skill and rigor.
  • Risk mitigation mindset, with demonstrated ability to build contingency plans and execute them.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with quick turnarounds/good time management.
