We’re embracing opportunities to innovate, collaborating with leading names globally to develop, adopt and share cutting-edge technologies that drive energy sustainability and efficiency.

The role

As Principal HSE Partner, you’ll operate as a senior safety leader and trusted advisor within Vector’s Legal & Assurance business unit. Partnering closely with leaders across the organisation, you’ll help design and deliver strategic health, safety and environmental initiatives that lift safety maturity and enable safe, high‑performance outcomes in a complex, high‑risk operating environment.

This role has a strong focus on delivery. You’ll translate strategy into practical frameworks, guidance and programmes that are used on the ground — from modernising HSE systems and controls, to coordinating multi‑stakeholder delivery programmes and supporting leaders with expert, contemporary safety advice. While not a site‑based role, you’ll maintain strong operational context and visibility through regular engagement with the business and our external partners.

What makes this role particularly compelling is the opportunity to shape and leave a personal imprint on Vector’s HSE frameworks. You’ll step into a position with strong executive and board support to evolve how safety is done, create new systems where gaps exist, and act as a senior partner within the function at a time of significant change across the energy sector.

Who are we looking for?

  • A senior HSE professional with at least five years’ experience leading and influencing HSE within a high‑risk, regulated environment such as energy, utilities, construction or infrastructure
  • Tertiary-qualified in Occupational Health and Safety, Risk Management, Environmental Management or a related discipline, with strong knowledge of New Zealand’s HSE legislative and regulatory framework
  • Proven experience designing and delivering organisation‑wide HSE initiatives, including modern safety frameworks, guidance materials and training resources used operationally
  • A collaborative, influential operator who can engage diverse stakeholders, facilitate groups effectively and drive accountability through to tangible outcomes
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity; curious, solutions‑focused and proactive, with the confidence to challenge the status quo and help evolve safety practice.

Why Vector?

We know that great energy starts with great people, and we’re committed to creating an environment where you can be, do and achieve your best:

  • Enhance your wellbeing, protect your future and empower your personal and professional growth through our extensive benefits package
  • Supercharge your career through internal opportunities, own your own development plan and drive your learning and growth
  • Join a company embracing innovation and collaborating with leading names worldwide to develop and adopt cutting-edge technologies, like X The Moonshot Factory
  • We value diverse perspectives, which drive innovation and creativity. We encourage everyone to bring their full selves to work, embracing ideas that challenge and inspire
  • Build a legacy doing work that matters – we’re keeping the lights on across Auckland, and driving a sustainable energy future for New Zealand.
