Job Description
Energise your career
As world economies try to adapt to a low carbon energy future, there are some jobs that take on new meaning and higher importance.
If you thrive working in a sector undergoing significant transformation, working on a critical service and can cope with that responsibility, then being part of the team creating this new energy future for New Zealand is certainly going to energise your career.
About the role
At Vector we’re creating the control room of the future, upgrading and developing new technology systems that will make this a state-of-the-art environment. Be part of this exciting transformation project, and along the way enjoy the job satisfaction that comes with knowing that you keep Auckland switched on, every day!
You will operate in more than just a “desk shift” environment, with opportunities to become involved in carrying out studies for equipment release and switching scheduling.
In a role offering variety and challenge, you’ll monitor and control the network, initiate fault restoration and emergency response, develop operational effectiveness initiatives, take part in contingency planning and provide technical and operational support. The shift working system is second to none and designed to provide variety for this role.
Key duties include:
- Monitoring and controlling the real-time operation of the electricity network to ensure a safe, reliable, secure and continuous supply to our customers
- Initiate fault restoration and emergency response
- Authorise and control field outages and operational activities
- Contingency planning
- Technical and operational support
- System performance reporting
We have multiple opportunities to join our modern, technology-focused control room where teamwork is second nature.
Who we are looking for
To be successful in this role you’ll need great communication and sharp analytical skills, coupled with the ability to maintain composure and make sound decisions in a timely manner during times of pressure.
Ideally, you’ll also have some of the following:
- Technical experience in electricity distribution networks or in an industrial/commercial setting
- Control room experience, and/or existing experience with the Vector network (this is advantageous)
- A relevant qualification/professional certification
- Experience using SCADA/ADMS
- An inherent belief in the importance of high standards of health and safety
Note that this role requires the ability to work to a rostered 7 o’clock-7 o’clock shift once fully trained, encompassing 2 days/2 nights, on a 4 on/4 off basis.
What we can offer you
Whether it’s the opportunity to do meaningful mahi and build a legacy for Auckland and New Zealand, to work in an innovative and transformative sector, or our commitment to supporting your development, there’s a myriad of reasons to choose a career with Vector.
