Job Description
The Foreman Electrical is a 2.9.2 appointment in terms of the Minerals Act and is responsible for the supervision of artisans in the maintenance and installation of electrical equipment and services. It includes the administration and management of assigned resources within the designated area for effective operation of the operation. Work according to regulations and all laws relevant to the tasks.
- Safety: Consistent application of Safety & Health principles in all discipline interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
- Performance and Delivery:
Oversee electrical installations and ensure equipment operates at specification
Maintain equipment and working areas at ‘Zero Tolerance Compliance
Ensures use of proper procedure and critical controls for all tasks
• Implements and maintains applicable Regulations and Codes of practice and standards
• Completes safety, injury, hazard, risk and incident reports where required
• Continuously discusses safety statistics and campaign details with the team
Ensure inspections and use of hazardous machinery and equipment comply with legal and mine requirements
Ensure that all appropriate work specifications, procedures and legal requirements are applied to the use of equipment, machinery and related safety devices
Perform periodic and scheduled inspections of task and equipment as required
Supervises the installation and maintenance of all electrical units and components thereof
Plans daily, weekly and monthly work requirements and priorities
Ensures availability of required parts, equipment and resources
Monitors the performance of team
Monitors operational effectiveness of electrical cabling and power distribution facilities
Performs periodic and scheduled inspections of cabling and equipment
Schedules breakdown requests and installation needs with relevant role players
Supervises the installation, replacement or servicing of units and/or components as specified
Supervises the housekeeping standards in area of responsibility
Process remains fully operational
Plan and coordinate daily, weekly and monthly work requirements and priorities with operational team (planned work and shutdowns)
Allocate labour resources and equipment to scheduled and priority activities so as to maintain and ensure high levels of labour, equipment and operational performance standards
Monitors operational effectiveness of electrical cabling and power distribution facilities

Chairing green area meetings at the start of each day
Investigation of incidents/accidents in area of responsibility (find root causes and sort out timeously)
Liaise with the other Foreman to ensure that any problems that could overlap with other sections are pro-actively identified and discussed
Oversee the development of a healthy spirit of cooperation within the section
Identify operational priorities within the section that would ensure the optimization of the section’s performance
Monitor the process to identify any possible problems or risk areas to the section and schedule remedy actions
Ensure availability for after-hours standby duties
Allocate multi-task team members to Artisans when required to perform and ensure effective maintenance
Accompany the Engineers on regular inspections and audits around the section
Review operational plans and re-assign targets and objectives to subordinates
Control costs to achieve maximum availability at lowest expenses
Promote team concepts
Regularly communicate progress of section against operational targets and objectives
Encourages initiatives and delegates responsibility
Provides technical mentorship and guidance
Support the induction of new employees
Maintain fair and equitable disciplinary procedures
Administration of necessary systems
Compile accurate reports where required
Ensure that required job instructions are available to employees
Establish procedures for abnormal work requirements which fall outside of standard procedures
Ensure that accurate labour records including overtime worked are maintained
Ensure that all the data captured on the operational and technical management information and control systems are accurate and timeous
Assist and participate in Risk Management Programmes
Completion of audit administration
Ensure that engineering administration requirements are complied with

Ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory, legislative and permitting requirements
Qualifications
Qualifications Section
Grade 12 with math and science
Qualified as an Electrician
Foreman Certificate
MV Competence (Desirable)
To be successful, you will have the following experience:
- 5 years post-trade qualified experience
- Supervisory experience would be advantageous
- Computer literacy(word/excel/Outlook)
Developing skill in:
- Maintenance planning and work scheduling.
- Coordination of maintenance activities.
- Team supervision and task allocation.
Proficient skill in:
- Installation and maintenance of electrical equipment.
- Application of electrical safety procedures and standards, including risk identification, hazard management and incident reporting.
- Breakdown coordination and corrective actions.
Advanced skill in:
- Supervision of electrical maintenance activities and coordination of maintenance teams.
- All Medium Voltage (MV) systems, equipment and switching procedures.
- Understanding of VSDs, SIMOCODE
- Read, interpret, and analyse electrical drawings and schematics
- Breakdown investigation, root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
- Electrical compliance inspections and audits.
- Planned shutdown and maintenance execution.
- Operational systems
Expert skill in:
- Compliance with Mine Health and Safety act, operational procedures, MHSA electrical regulations and safety standards. Management of actions (i.e. Isometrix)
- Technical leadership, coaching and development of artisans and artisan assistants.
Operational decision-making during breakdowns, emergencies and major maintenance activities.
