Job Description

This role is responsible for ensuring that the plant process operates effectively in order to produce the quality and quantity of metals planned, with a time frame of 1-2 years accountability. Coordinates labour, equipment and services as required for the role. The role has the legal accountability with a 2.6.1 appointment in terms of the MHSA in smaller plants
 

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Assist plant manager develop annual budget for plant sections
  • Production targets focused on controllable variables not inputs
  • Ensure that plant section operates in a sustainable manner
  • Maintain process recipe
  • Develop and maintain site specific standards, codes of practices, systems and procedures in accordance with guidelines and the Act.
  • Optimize plant within recipe
  • Identify key performance shortfalls and gaps, and critical improvement areas.
  • Manage performance of direct production staff
  • Take corrective action to daily/weekly/monthly targets achieve weekly/monthly/quarterly targets
  • Ensure availability, and allocate production resources (people, materials, money) across all shifts
  • Tactical plans for implementation of plant goals and objectives
  • Operate the plant daily within recipe and guidelines
  • Take corrective action to shift targets to achieve daily targets
  • Set support service requirements
  • Achieve production targets
  • Develop concentrators plant annual budget
  • Actions to maximize synergies between plant sections
  • Shift leave roster and shift overtime within company policy
  • Risks and threats to people and process during shift, stopping the operation if the working conditions are unsafe
  • Take corrective action within recipe to shift/daily targets to achieve daily/weekly targets
  • Planned shutdowns and preventive maintenance of plant section and machinery
  • Manage performance of once removed production staff
  • Disciplining employees to agreed policies and procedures
  • Stopping the operation if the working conditions are unsafe / environmentally unacceptable
  • Allocation of work plans
  • Plant (shift/shift leader) succession plans Corrective actions for SHE deficiencies
  • Ongoing support to achieve operational goals
  • Ensure integrity of process flow sheet and technologies
  • Facilitate technology transfer
  • Project execution
  • Ensure that shifts are adequately staffed with competent people
  • Solve plant boundary problems
  • Monitor and control metals flow and inventories to minimize plant lock up.
  • Communicates vision and values effectively and inspires others towards the same
  • Plant succession plans
  • Implementation of applicable Safety, Regulations, The Act, Codes of practice and standards
  • Review safety, injury, hazard, risk and incident reports – plan of action Plant acceptance of new technologies

This role is at a Band 6 level reporting to the Manager Production Processing

Qualifications

  • Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy degree/diploma

Experience

  • At least 7-10 years post qualification Plant experience in metallurgy development projects and line management

Knowledge and Skills

  • Computer skills for role including Business systems e.g. SAP
  • English literate
  • Valid driving license code 08
  • Good technical understanding of Process control systems
  • Knowledge of the best utilization/business applications of management and plant processing
  • SHE systems management
  • Management systems implementation and maintenance thereof.
