Job Description
The Forklift Driver is responsible to provide transportation and loading support to the material team. When the forklift is not needed this role is expected to support work in the store.
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Safely operate a forklift to:
- Load and unload goods from vehicles
- Transport hazardous materials/chemicals to designated storage locations
- Stack and retrieve stock in accordance with warehouse layout plans
- Ensure accurate handling of stock to prevent damage, loss, or misplacement
- Support picking, staging, and dispatch activities where required
- Assist with general warehouse activities during non-driving periods
- Housekeeping:
- Once core material handling duties are up to date, ensure the forklift is effectively utilized to support good housekeeping practices within the warehouse
- Maintain neat, safe, and organized storage areas through proper stacking, packing, and arrangement of materials
- Ensure aisles, staging areas, and storage zones remain clear, accessible, and compliant with safety standards
- Operate the forklift in accordance with:
- Company safety standards
- Occupational health and safety regulations
- Site-specific operating procedures
- Conduct pre-operational checks and report any defects to the supervisor immediately
- Stop operations if unsafe conditions are identified
- Maintain safe working practices in shared warehouse environments
- Participate in safety meetings and promote a safety-first culture
- Follow work instructions, picking slips, and dispatch requirements accurately
- Ensure correct load handling (weight distribution, stacking stability, and securing)
- Meet productivity and turnaround time requirements
- Communicate operational issues, delays, or risks to the Warehouse Supervisor
- Report all completed tasks and deviations to the Warehouse Supervisor
- Record and communicate:
- Equipment issues
- Safety incidents
- Stock discrepancies
- Maintain effective communication with warehouse and supply chain teams
Qualifications
- Matric
- Forklift driver license
- Code 10 driving license - Advantageous
- Be certified in Dangerous Goods Awareness & Handling - Advantageous
Experience
- One year Fork lift driving experience
