Job Description

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Monitor the operational status of all mobile and support equipment via the Fleet Management System (FMS).
  • Identify, confirm, and log breakdowns or operational delays affecting equipment availability.
  • Provide first‑level dispatch support during equipment breakdowns in line with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Initiate call‑out of service providers or contractors as directed and in accordance with agreed protocols.
  • Escalate equipment availability issues and abnormal conditions to the Dispatch Supervisor and/or Pit Supervision.
  • Reallocate equipment in the system as directed to support continuity of operations.
  • Monitor equipment utilisation, cycle times, queues, and delays to support optimal allocation.
  • Identify operational constraints impacting equipment productivity and communicate these to relevant stakeholders.
  • Receive and process operational status updates from Pit Supervision and equipment operators.
  • Capture operational needs and priorities communicated by Foremen and Supervisors.
  • Confirm equipment availability and locations through FMS data and operator feedback.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing communications via radio and telephone in line with communication protocols.
  • Respond to requests for operational and production data sourced from the dispatch system.
  • Relay accurate and timely information between the control room, pit supervision, and operational teams.
  • Ensure clear, professional radio communication that supports safe and coordinated operations.
  • Extract and provide production and operational data reports from the dispatch system as requested.
  • Capture and log dispatch‑related information to support shift reporting and operational reviews.
  • Ensure dispatch records and system entries are accurate, complete, and timeously updated.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory, legislative and permitting requirements.  
  • Report any contraventions of the Minerals Act, MHSA, Regulations, codes of practice, instructions, permissions, exemptions.
  • Perform other requirements as assigned by your Line Manager.

This role is at a C1 Level, reporting to the Dispatch Foreman.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 (NQF Level 4)
  • Relevant tertiary qualification advantageous

Experience, technical knowledge and skills:

  • Minimum of 1 years’ experience working with an electronic Fleet Management or Dispatch System within an open‑pit mining or similar operational control environment.
  • Knowledge of equipment status terminology, breakdown reporting processes, and delay classification.
  • Understanding of open-pit mining operational processes, including load and haul activities, drill & blast activities, support equipment functions, and production flows.
  • Computer literacy in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel
