Job Description

Visiting Lecturer
Location: Whanganui
Independent Contractor | Hybrid

The role will be hybrid working between schools within your assigned region and home. 

About the role: 

New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) is seeking qualified and experienced individuals to take on the role of Visiting Lecturer to support and assess student teachers undertaking practical placements an early childhood education (ECE) setting.

This is an independent contracting role based regionally ending in December 2026 and is specifically designed for regions where NZTC does not currently have employed lecturers.

As Visiting Lecturer, you will play a key role in guiding, assessing, and mentoring future ECE professionals, ensuring they meet the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand 2025 standards and uphold NZTC’s high expectations of teaching practice and professionalism.

  • Prepare and support student teachers as they transition into professional placements
  • Observe, assess, and record student performance using NZTC’s standard assessment processes
  • Provide constructive, evidence-based feedback to student teachers and their Associate Teachers
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with centre managers and Associate Teachers
  • Uphold NZTC’s professional and ethical standards in all interactions

Qualifications

About you:

You are a passionate and professional educator who values quality teaching practice and enjoys mentoring the next generation of early childhood teacher. You bring a balance of academic understanding, practical ECE experience, and a strong commitment to professional integrity.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Early Childhood Education (bachelor’s degree or higher)
  • A current practicing certificate with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand
  • 3-5 + years professional experience in early childhood education settings
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Māori and Pasifika perspectives, and inclusive practice.
  • The ability to manage your own schedule, travel locally for visits, and complete documentation efficiently
  • A full drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle
