Job Description
Foundation Communications and Design Teacher
Location: Auckland CBD
Part-time | Fixed-Term | UPIC Auckland
Please note: this is a fixed term opportunity, ideally starting on 20 April 2026, with an end date of 11 December 2026. Hours will be part-time 20 hours per week.
About the role:
UP Education, in partnership with the University of Auckland, is looking to recruit a passionate Design and Communications teacher for Year 12 and 13. The role will involve:
- Teaching Design and Communications and undertaking assessments and administrative responsibilities relating to your course
- Undertaking research and inquiry to learn about the latest developments in Design and Communications as an academic area and applying them in your own teaching
- Making positive contributions to the development of new innovative faculty resources for teaching and e-materials for student access.
Some of your key responsibilities outside of teaching will include:
- Providing academic and pastoral oversight of students
- Engaging with pastoral and academic systems
- Elevating any issues with academic or pastoral issues through the Learner Success Team (who will in turn communicate with parents and agents)
- Completing administrative tasks as required in relation to these responsibilities
Qualifications
About you:
You must be able to demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and that you are able to make a positive contribution to the work of the faculty. As a highly organised individual who likes to plan and work efficiently, managing your schedule and meeting deadlines will be second nature to your passion for teaching. This will be demonstrated through the consistent positive student feedback.
The Design course is both a theoretical and practical course, where students use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to create portfolios of work. As such, you will need to have a strong ability to develop skills associated with these tools.
You must possess the following:
- Former teaching experience in teaching Communications & Design
- Degree suitable to teach Communications & Design
- Bachelors Degree in Education or Graduate Diploma in Teaching is preferred
- Experience in international students’ environment is preferred
